I don’t want to be an admirer of thin for all sorts of reasons which I don’t need to go into. But I’m struck by the way he can hold his own against any number of detractors – probably because he has to. Whether it reflects his strengths or his opponents’ weaknesses, he’s still the same.

Surely those who oppose him could think of more effective tactics – unless they secretly prefer the idea of battle to that of victory . . . . . .

Thin has detractors because he brings it all upon himself with his pathetic threads and posts, attempts to wind up and tease and his blatant lies.

For me personally, I just love to mock this afflicted guy because he asks for it. Do I lose sleep over his posts? No.

And as for victory? What do you see as victory? Finally hounding thin from JC and the boards like he has done others? I doubt that will ever happen – JC is thin’s life. Even when banned he used another name to come in here.

I know he brings it on himself – he even claims to bring it on himself with his repeated use of the term ‘wind-up’. Mock the ‘afflicted’ if you like but don’t then complain if he, in turn, replies to you, as some do.

As for victory, ask the people who keep fighting what they see as victory, this isn’t my fight. I’m posting what I observe and my opinions on it. I am not thin’s defender and he seems to have fewer defenders than attackers so I would think few people take his side.

However, I see him posting his barbed posts, and then up to half a dozen people jumping in often with far more extreme insults than he has dished out. He never backs down, they never stop, it goes on and on and on.

And yes, some might say “you don’t have to read it” but this has been happening on threads with general interest topics, not just the ‘banter’ (cough!) threads. And of course, sometimes during the spats some juicy gossip emerges.

I spend too much time in JC to criticise people for regarding it as their life. I do find the personalized aggression from and against thin tiresome. I don’t believe it will ever stop, but I don’t think it should go unchallenged. But I’m glad you enjoy it. Chat should be all about fun

we all bleed red at the end of the day :?

That’s the frustrating thing about it cosy, it’s so bleedin’ (!) simple, but so many people just don’t seem to want to get it. Tragic.

words,im merely stating my own opinion, dont worry about thin, yeh he can fight his own corner,we all can, this is the boards not a kindergarten
    just form your own opinions
dont be hanging on to my shirt tail im too busy :D

I’m glad the age limit protects us from kindergarten-aged posters.

I thought I was merely stating my own opinion. But thanks for putting me right, because now I see that referring to someone’s contributions is ‘hanging on to (their) shirt tails’, I’ll have to revise my opinion of your many references to thin’s contributions. Although I don’t think his t-shirts have tails. . . . .

It’s clear he can fight his own corner, he really should have been on the ropes long before now.

It reminds me of a rugby practice when I was about 12. Games teacher brought in the biggest player from the school first team, gave him the ball and told him to run with it. We were told to get the ball from him. Within seconds this guy was literally carrying about 10 of us and the ball down the field. One boy finally clicked that this wasn’t working and went for his legs, at which point the teacher stopped proceedings before the whole pile ended up crushing him.

    Of course stopping the pile-up stopped the fun . . . .

Some people seem to have let their exasperation and fury at being teased so successfully by thin get in the way of the most important facts about this case – the racist atmosphere of murder (Lawrence wasn’t the first or the last to be murdered by white power gangs), and the police incompetence which led to four police investigations, two trials, a judicial inquiry, an inquest and nearly 19 years as the Lawrence family sought justice. Most of the gang seem to have escaped as a result (I hope Mrs Teapot, one of those who has not let the anti-thin crowd obscure her judgement) is right about Dobson squealing.

Thin made the right point about the cops – who can trust them on their record in this case? He is Tease Numero 1 on the boards, and people are infuriated by their inability to stamp on him, but the important thing isn’t thin but the racist climate where murder is acceptable among some young white kids.

Sceptical guy, there’s a drink waiting for you anytime our paths cross (better keep a spare fiver in my wallet).

The reason why Stephen Lawrence’s brutal* murder is still remembered is because the Met police messed up so badly that many thought it was corruption. They subsequently tried to cover up their mistakes and across the country it was found that police loyalty was so great that even officers who had no connection with the location and no love for the Met were prepared to demonise the Lawrences, excuse the murder and the police’s unprofessionalism and further negatively stereotype black people. Even though the sheer incompetence displayed during the investigation had been shoddy and shameful shameful.

Remember the term “Institutional Racism”? That was used to describe the inbuilt bias which ran through the police from training onwards to the extent that many officers found that in order to survive professionally they had to be thought of as tolerating or even encouraging racism. It survived because of an unchallenged bullying, macho culture but it was not exclusive to the police.

Some of the problems in addressing these issues stem from an inability to use the word ‘racism’ honestly and appropriately. Some police officers strenuously denied any racism in the investigation seemed comfortable blaming the problems on corruption. Neither is comforting to me.

Stephen was murdered in 1993, The inquiry which began in 1998** and reported in 1999 had a huge impact on public services and public attitudes and spearheaded progress across areas of inequality in the UK. However these things have not been secured and bigotry on a personal and institutional level must be tackled by the many, not just the few.

*one anecdote, Stephen’s hands, which he apparently held up to defend himself, were so badly damaged they had to be covered at the funeral – an open coffin is common at Caribbean funerals.

    **dates from memory, not checked.

    See, you know she’s got it, I know she’s got it, but if she finds out you’ve accused her of having it . . . . . . . . .
