I can barely think of  a single sport that doesn’t rely on speed/power/endurance of which testosterone is a facet of  so that narrows it down to a tiny number  meaning male dominance across the entire sporting spectrum. Gymnastics /ice skating really is clutching at straws as whilst the females are talented, it’s an artistic sport with ability being judged on presentation/ appearance/execution but even in gymnastics they have different routines with vaults at differing heights due to strength differences etc. If gliding round the ice is the best example of competing at similar levels , it’s a fairly weak argument.

Tbh I don’t think there’s any doubting that men are superior in any sport I can think of, but as with most things and as it should be, it’s all about supply and demand. It’s quite a few years ago now but I’m almost certain that in the US the viewing figures for Womens tennis overtook the Mens, that is when the Women fought for equal prize money. You can’t only go on time taken to play a game to work out prize money because the hours spent on court etc. pale into insignificance when you take into account time spent training. If time spent “performing” was what they were paid for then Usain Bolt would be the lowest paid sports star in the world instead of the highest paid. Watch the mixed double tennis if you want to see who the superior players are, the players on both teams try to target the opposing female every chance they get – think that says it all.

That’s a fair comment about the training, but why both sexes are playing different times of match I’ve no idea. In athletics you mention Bolt but there is no concession for women reducing their distance in relation to men yet we have this bizarre set up in tennis.

that’s why men are kept apart as they are stronger, faster in every sport ever invented.

I think it is just basic common sense that that statement is clearly not accurate, or based on any reality. As the Olympics demonstrates.

What do the olympics demonstrate ? Name a sport which can be measured in quantifiable measurements such as time/distance/postions where women beat men instead of vague references to my statements being inaccurate. My statements are based on facts… not a single distance run in any olympic event including marathons which are based on endurance have womens finishing times remotely close to men. The fastest woman in the world in every distance would not even make the final in the mens race or the heats in the first place.  As we are talking about tennis, the best female tennis player in the world couldn;t beat a guy ranked 203 in the mens event … how does that equate to equality? Both genders are biologically different and to assume otherwise based on some kind of utopian ideal where equality reigns supreme is just daft.

Incidentally I prefer womens tennis , 5 sets bores the sweet jesus out of me and in tournaments with both genders playing best of three sets then equal pay is fine but not in scenarios like this.

that’s why men are kept apart as they are stronger, faster in every sport ever invented.

Every sport ever invented? You sure about that one. Don’t you mean the cherry picked sports you have chosen, where men are physically stronger than women and that you therefor equate strength to superiority? :good:

Name a sport where men and women compete on an equal level with women regularly beating men? We are talking sporting superiority not some kind of master race superiority you are inferring with your posts and I stand by my comments … name a single sport where women beat men that doesn’t involve a machine or animal. It’s not just about strength, look at endurance events such as long distance running- find me a single world record where a woman can run any distance faster than a man where strength plays less of a factor unlike explosive sprint events and it’s more endurance orientated. You can’t simple as that

If men work 5 days in an office, women work 3.. what company would pay the same rate to both?

Possibly they would be the same rate but pro rata as in most jobs. In life you are generally paid for the hours you work so you have blown your own argument out of the water. Quite obviously a director / manager in fact every one employed gets paid the same rate or should do if they are at the same level. As the majority of sports prize money is corrupt why are you just singling out tennis? Deuce !

Your points don’t make any sense. As you say pro rata , so as the average  mens match lasts longer in tournaments like wimbledon why should pay rates be the same ..” game set and match” you have just argued my case for me. We are discussing tennis as that is the topic, would you go on every thread and say why are we discussing X Y and Z because the thread was directed to a specific topic? No thread can encapsulate every topic known to man can it?  In life as you say people are generally paid for the hours they work and during a tournament like wimbledon the men work more hours as they need to win more sets to progress yet you argue the merits of equal pay which goes against the whole gist of your own post

None of these arguments wash water with me I am afraid. Physical brute force is not the same as “ability”. Women work just as hard as men. Male and female tennis is not promoted equally. Women didn’t make the rules that they should only play three sets, men did. Most matches outside of major grand Slam tournaments are played over three sets. That three set rule has also created a false perception that women lack the toughness and endurance to handle five sets, which also reinforces the stereotype that women are inferior to men. A man is not paid less for winning in three straight sets and so that argument is flawed, applying that logic.

It doesn’t really matter what washes water with your or not.. women play 60% the match length as men. This isn’t opinion, it’s fact so how can they possibly work as hard as men? They effectively do the same job but women only need to play a best of three sets compared to best of five for men. You wouldn’t say ” person A works Monday to wednesday and person B works Monday to Friday doing exactly the same thing deserves the same wage.. it’d be a part time salary which is what women should get under those regulations. If women aren’t inferior to men why do they not play each other? Of course they are inferior in strength and endurance which is why every athletic world record is faster for men.. again that’s not supposition , it’s fact. This was actually put to test by the generally regarded greatest ever female player Serena Williams who claimed she could beat any man ranked outside the top 200 knowing obviously anyone in the top 200 would be too much for her and wipe the floor with her. She played a guy ranked 203 in the world , a bum by male standards called Karsten braasch who destroyed her 6-1.. that’s why men are kept apart as they are stronger, faster in every sport ever invented. This same player who is exceptionally poor by male standards then beat her sister  6-2.. the reality is  it’s a complete mismatch.

The main crux of the argument however is you don’t pay someone the same for doing 60% of the work and to suggest winning a tournament playing best of 3 sets is the same as best of 5 is absolute nonsense.

What are the viewership numbers on female tennis comared to males? That’s usually what pay for sports is based on.

True, but I think we both know the ” viewing” isnt for just the tennis is it from many watchers. I actually prefer womens tennis as 5 sets goes on too long but doesnt mean they should get paid the same for less work

If you want to throw sexist rubbish into the debate then make them play 5 sets against the men and treat both sexes equally… see how they get on.
