I would do a format. Thats what I do every months anyway. Takes away all the sh.it that clutters up over time.
This is very good advise Manners, to keep your system running smoothy and at its optimal level. Like you Manners, i also format my system at least once a month.

Dave it’s well know that Boilsofts avi/mpeg media splitter is by far the best prog for splitting media files, http://www.boilsoft.com/videosplitter/. You can download the prog and serials/license keys from the links below. To download Boilsofts AVI/MPEG splitter, right click on the links below and select ‘save target as’.

im on a comp, its only about 3 months old, its a dell deminsion 3400 desktop, shes running windows xp home edition, on aol dial up, the problem is that its running super slow all the time, nothing is picking up on virius scans, she has mcafee, and spyware, can someone help me pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee
First thing you should do is to clean your HDD. Click start>all programs>accessories>system tools>disc clean up. Now run this tool and let it finish before moving to the next step.
Now click start>all programs>accessories>system tools>disc defragmenter. Now run this tool and let it finish before moving to the next step.
Now download tune-up utilities 2004 from here http://www.tune-up.com/download/tu2004/, once you have downloaded and instaled Tune-up, reboot your computer. Now open up Tune Up and you should see the main menu.
Now select the tab that says “cusomize & analyze”. Now select “start up manager”. Now uncheck any of the boxes that you dont want to run on start up ( the more you uncheck the quicker your boot process will become). But you must be sure you dont need these programs to run at start up. If your not sure what these are post these start up progs and i will advise which ones you should remove ( this is the most probable reason your comps running slowly ). When you finished unchecking the boxes you wish to stop running at start up, click refresh on the top left hand side of this screen and exit this screen back to the main menu.
Now select the tab that says “Tune up system control”. Now scroll down the menu on your left and select “network” under the “general” tab uncheck all of these boxes. Now select the tab that says “advanced” and uncheck the box that says “enable plug and play”. Now exit this screen back to the main menu.
Now select the tab that says “Clean up and repair”and select the menu option “tune up registry cleaner”. Run this program to clean up your registry. When you have completed this exit this menu back to the main screen.
Now select the tab that says “Optimize & improve” now select the menu option that says “Registry defrag” your comp will now defrag the registry and Tune up will now ask you to reboot.
Now go here and download Adwarespy http://www.adwarespy.com/. Now check your PM and enter the license key i gave you. Make sure you Update the prog before performing a full system scan.
One last thing!! Try to configure your browsing to run through IE and not AOL’s own browser/account as this is notorius for chewing system resourses, if your unsure ask one of your AOL advisors.
21 April, 2005 at 5:21 pm #109949I use Goldwave to split mp3’s. You need to use Lames mp3 encoder (free) to save the media to either mp3, ogg, wma and most other formats. It’s not free (45$) but if you want the license key to unlock this prog, pm me.

14 April, 2005 at 10:53 pm #106492Xp always makes the default setting of the VM volume 1.5x of the physical RAM instaled as we already discussed. So this would mean she has only roughly 98 mb of pysical RAM? :? What physical RAM does she have instaled?
Further to this ‘if’ she has 256mb? of RAM and 144mb of VM making a total of 370 mb of RAM she should still definatley have no probs running a clean instal of XP with no progs instaled, She should have at least say 100+ mb free. Dont get me wrong im not saying your bullshíttíng but this just dont add up. Something is definatley not right here.

Thanks for that Super, its been puzzling me be for a while this problem as the people Ive asked to see if they are doing it , say its most like search engine spiders and not these zombies you’ve mention , which i feel is a more fitting name for it .
I was wondering if i could ban the odd ip or dns , be a pain to change every media file.
valuable information there super .. nice 0ne
I think that renaming all media with some bizarre name that ppl aint gonna type in search engines is best in the long run. If your having bandwidth probs thats means it’s gonna be alot of ppl directly linking to your site and you’ll be there for ages banning ip’s then theres the problem of dynamic ip’s like dial up.
On a second thought to make 100% sure you could try pinging all major search engines, recording there ips and banning them, i think this would stop them linking to your site in futre
start>run>cmd>ping http://www.google.com

If you were getting VM probs with the default setting of 384 mb resetting it to a lower volume of 286 mb would of surley made it even worse.
The default setting was 144MB. :?
So if the XP default setting for the VM volume is 1.5x of physical RAM, and the VM was set at 144mb of VM RAM, that means she has 100mb of physical RAM? Very strange.

I was thinking of doing that anyway it is an old monitor but i don’t understand that it plays games like vice city but not a crap game like tony hawks 3
Follow my post above jamie this should sought it. You may need to experiment with the colour depth but i would of thought resizing your resolution would of done the job. Check the resolution that works best with the game it should be found on the back cover of the box in small print somewere.
