    Hello Dave.

Go here http://www.download.com/3001-8022_4-10307556.html?idl=n and download Hijackthis. Make sure you save this file to your desktop. Now open Hijackthis and click on the button that says do a system scan and save logfile.

When the scan has completed it will open a log file in notepad. I want you to copy and post the complete logfile please.

    Dave click on this link.

Right now scroll down and look at the post by someone called Adrynalyne.

Do you see the entries for Minibug that he is advising the user to remove? this is what your looking for.

    Hello Dave.

This Minibug is proving to be a pain in the áss.

Open Adwarespy click on advanced and maximise the screen.

Click scan. You should now be in the ‘advanced scan report’.(dont worry if it seems as though the scan button dont work)

Now look in the list very carefully, reading every one completley.

What i want you to do is type and post the ones you dont recognise for instance if it say C:/program files/symantec you know this is Norton ignore these and just post the one’s your not sure about. It’s there it’s just not obvious.

Dave you cant copy and paste from the list.

Dave open up Adwarespy and click on the advanced tab.

Now Maximise the window that appears.

Now click the process manager button.

Now look in the list do you see this C:Program FilesAWSWeatherBugMINIBUGTRANSPORTER?

    Or

    C:Program FilesAWSWeatherBug?

If you see anything like any of these in the process manager click on it once and then press ‘kill process’.

Donot shut Adwarespy down and post back for the next step

Super i did what u said – but when i started i was given this start up menu 1 Normal 2 Logged 3 Safe Mode 4 step-by-step

First i chose the normal – but found my norton wouldnt not even work on this.

Next as i didnt know what logged or step-by-step was i chose safe mode – norton worked but failed to even find the minibug.

After the scan i restarted as u said and ran the norton once more – it found it this time and only gave me the option to ignore it – not delete, fix or quarantine.

So as the bug is still here i didnt re-install IE6 – sighhhhhhhhhhh

    Hi Dave.

I’ve been reading up on this Minibug and the good news is i found a program that guarantees complete removal of the Minibug which is a variant of the Weatherbug.

What you need to do is to click on this link http://www.adwarespy.com/_vti_bin/shtml.exe/download.html and download and instal Adwarespy.

Fill in the ‘your name’ dialouge box and the ’email address’ dialouge box with a fake name and fake email addy, now download this product, select run and instal Adwarespy.
Now check your Private Messaging and follow the instructions given.

The reason why im trying to getting you to remove the Minibug is because this Minibug could corrupt a fresh IE6 installation putting you back at square one.
Please post when your ready to do a clean install of IE6.

Yes I know you think this – but I am curious to know what exactly it did to make you feel this way about Uncle Norton.

I have used it for several years now and have had no problems with it so I am left to wonder if I am missing something here?

PB if you been using Norton for years this must ring a bell.

Norton has encountred a problem and needs to close

    Or

Norton has encountred a problem and needs to close please uninstall and then reinstall Norton.

Or when ran in safe mode

There seems to be a problem with your license key please contact support. Norton will now close

Dave if were going to do this properly lets first start by getting rid of this Mini bug.

Start your comp in diagnostics mode.

Click start>run and in the run dialouge box type this exactly msconfig. You should now have a system configuration utility box appear.

Now select the radio button that says diagnostic start up – load basic devices and services under the general tab. Now click on the apply button and then click on the close button.

You will now be prompted to restart your computer. Click restart.

Now scan your computer with Norton. As i said Norton does have a habit of corrupting itself when ran in basic modes but as a once off you should be ok. Let Norton find this Minibug Norton should now have no problem removing it.

Once you removed the Minibug click start>run and in the run dialouge box type msconfig and select the radio button that says normal start up – load all devices drivers and services. Now click apply and then click close, you will now be prompted to restart your computer, click restart.

Once you done this we will then install a fresh new clean version of IE6.

had a problem the last couple of weeks and now its bugging me!

when i load up the pc and get onto main desktop i get a thingy come up saying “windows virtual memory too low”. goes on to say they will make space or more room etc. what have i done to get this?

also i get a runtime error box. are they conected?

This sounds like your allowing way too many programs to run at start up and your comp has’nt got the sufficent RAM to deal with these all these start up requests, so your comps sending alot of these start up requests to the paging file (Virtual Memory) which ultimatley is becoming full and hence the error. A sure sign of this is your comp taking along time to boot.

By the sound of it you must be running 256 mb of RAM, If your running 512 mb of RAM or higher, You got a massive amount of apps running at start up and this would indicate spyware, malware, viruses or trojans.

You desperatley need to edit your start up registry keys and remove anything that’s not needed at start up to prevent this from happening.
The reason that your comps telling you it’s increasing the volume of the paging file is because if it did’nt increase its size your comp would crash.

Do this click start>control panel>system. Under the system properties page please post me your Operating system details, and most importantly how much RAM you have.

Also can you post the the runtime error code that your getting.
