Hi Ellen, so that we can assist you can you post the answers to the following:
    1. What is your computer’s Operating System? (e.g. Windows 98SE; ME; 2000; NT; XP Home; XP Pro etc).

    2. What is the processor speed? (e.g Pentium 4, 1.5 GHz; AMD Athlon 2.0 GHz etc etc). think its pentium 4

3.How much RAM do you have installed at the moment? (e.g 64MB; 128MB; 256MB etc etc) 64mb i believe

    4. How many ‘running processes’ are there currently on your computer at startup? (i.e how many programmes are loaded up and ready to go when you start up?). i get messenger& bullguard. so 2

    5. Is you computer a PC or a laptop? pc

There are several ways to assist you with your issue, but answers to the above questions will help to point us in the right direction for YOUR computer.[/color]

You said you think you have only 64mb of ram instaled but yet you have a Pentuim4 instaled? Are you sure? You can check by going start> control panel>system and click on the tab that says general, it will be listed on there. Having a P4 instaled on a computer that has 64mb of RAM instaled dont make sense, it’s like having a Ferrari with a Moped engine in it.

The reason i ask is because it takes 256mb of RAM to boot XP efficiently. Your RAM must be struggling to run your computer. If you have only 64mb of RAM your paging file (VM) must be massive.

In laymans terms your using a shovel when you should be using a JCB!!.

    RAM=Speed.

    Hi PB.

I’d do a clean instal any day before i’d use system restore. I have used systems restore once and i never would again, as it butchers your system.

I know that if i was actually sat at Daves computer i’d definatley of removed this Minibug/Weatherbug. I could only take Dave so far as my knowledge of the ME OS is limited as i have never used or owned ME, i also was’nt prepared to let him loose on the registry because if something goes wrong i aint getting blamed.

I think that even if Dave restored the system to an earlier date the Minibug would still be there, although i may be wrong.

And on a finishing note, Dave you may want to remove your Hijack log as it’s a security risk to yourself.

    FFS, LMAO.

Dave i’ve tried all i can to help you out. According to the Hijack log the file has already been deleted which makes me think you maybe getting a false positive from Norton?.

I can only now suggest that you uninstal IE6, reboot and Run the Tune-Up registry cleaner.
Once you have finished running the registry cleaner reboot and instal IE6 again then reboot.

And these entries from the Hijack log are Alexa toolbar related. I recommend you remove these too as they are classed as Spyware.

Dave open up Hijackthis and click on the button thats says ‘do a system scan only’.

Now check the box next to this entry.

    O9 – Extra button: WeatherBug – {AF6CABAB-61F9-4f12-A198-B7D41EF1CB52} – C:Program FilesAWSWeatherBugWeather.exe (file missing) (HKCU)

Now press the fix button. Do not reboot.

Now download tune up utilities 2004 http://www.tune-up.com. (trial version).

Open up tune up and select the tab that says clean up and repair. Now run the registry cleaner and when the scan has finished select start cleaning.

Now reboot and run norton to see if the Minibug has been deleted.

Right Dave before we start deleting anything can you go start>my computer>drive C>windows>system 32 and look if you can find this MINIBUGTRANSPORTER.DLL and tell me if it’s there?

The systems32 folder stores all dll’s alaphabetically.

Dave Hijack has found it but i need about half hour to pull this log apart dont delete anything untill i post.

    no AWS file there !!!!

No it’s a hidden file it has an extension of .cab you wont find it in the programs directory.

You need to download Winzip then download hijack this (make sure you save Hijack this to your desktop) and post the log Dave.

Then go to your program files and delete the AWS file!
    Click My Computer
    Click Local Disk (C)
    Click Program Files

Owen you can force an uninstal from the Minibug while it’s in use.
