The definitive version of this song can be found on Sting’s live opus of the mid-eighties.. Bring on the Night

This song was apparently penned late one night in 1983 in the French Quarter of New Orleans, where according to it’s creator “You can’t move for vampires after midnight” A deliciously eccentric, eerie and postively “cool” little tune.. inspired by Anne Rice’s novel Interview with a Vampire
.. and well.. urm yet again.. I find posting it on here somewhat.. erm… apt ..

    MOON OVER BOURBON STREET

There’s a moon over Bourbon Street tonight
I see faces as they pass beneath the pale lamplight
I’ve no choice but to follow that call
    The bright lights
    The people
    And the moon and all

I pray every day to be strong
For I know what I do must be wrong
Oh you’ll never see my shape
Or hear the sound of my feet
While there’s a moon over Bourbon Street

    It was many years ago
That I became what I am
I was trapped in this life
    Like an innocent lamb
Now I can never show my face at noon
And you’ll only see me walking
By the light of the moon

    The brim of my hat
Hides the eye of a beast
I’ve the face of a sinner
But the hands of a Priest
Oh you’ll never see my shape
Or hear the sound of my feet
While there’s a moon over Bourbon Street

    She walks every day
Through the streets of New Orleans
    She is innocent and young
    From a family of means
    I have stood
    Many times
    Outside her window at night
    To struggle with my instinct
    In the pale moonlight

How could I be this way?
When I pray to God above..
I must love what I destroy
And destroy the thing I love

Oh you’ll never see my shape
Or hear the sound of my feet
While there’s a moon over Bourbon Street..

Saw Batman Begins on 29th September. What a brilliant film. It puts real
flesh on the bones of the Batman character. His origins and how he came by

with the Ninjas was cinematic heaven. A must see film if you haven’t already!

    I agree Owen..
    Awesome.. Inspiring stuff..

When the cold of Winter comes
    Starless night will cover day
In the veiling of the sun
We will walk in bitter rain
    But in dreams..
    I can hear your name
    And in dreams..
    We will meet again

When the seas and mountains fall
And we come to end of days
In the dark I hear a call
    Calling me there
    I will go there..
    And back again..

May it be an evening star
    Shines down upon you
May it be when darkness falls
    Your heart will be true
    You walk a lonely road
Oh how far you are from home

    Mornie utulie..
Believe and you will find your way
    Mornie alantie..
A promise lives within you now

May it be the shadow’s call
    Will fly away
May it be you journey on
    To light the day
    When the night is overcome
You may rise to find the sun

    Promise me you’ll remember..
    This love together today
    We may not have tomorrow
It’s not for us to say
    Fate isn’t kind to lovers
    It breaks the hardest hearts
    Promise me you’ll remember..
    How good we are

Why do I find a sadness
    Under your sweetest kiss?
    Destiny seems to whisper
    It won’t stay like this..

    Whenever we’re together
    I feel time standing still
I only know I love you
    And I always will
If we should lose each other
    Somewhere inside the dark
    Promise me you’ll remember..
    How good we are

    Whenever we’re together
    I feel time standing still
I only know I love you
    And I Always will
If we should lose each other
    Somewhere inside the dark
    Promise me you’ll remember..
    How good we are

    Time isn’t kind to lovers
    It breaks the hardest hearts
    Promise me you’ll remember..
    How good..
    We are..

For what we gain in losing..

    Ghost Story

    I watch the western sky
    The sun is sinking
    The geese are flying south
    It sets me thinking..
I did not miss you much
    I did not suffer
    What did not kill me
    Just made me tougher

    I feel the winter come
    His icy sinews
    Now in the firelight
    The case continues
    Another night in court
    The same old trial
    The same old questions asked
    The same denial

    The shadows close me round
    Like jury members
    I look for answers in
    The fire’s embers
    Why was I missing then
    That whole December?
    I give my usual line
    I don’t remember

    Another winter comes
    His icy finger’s creep
    Into these bones of mine
    These memories never sleep
    And all these differences
    A cloak I borrowed
    We kept our distances
    Why should it follow
    I must have loved you..

What is the force that binds the stars?
I wore This mask to hide my scars
What is the power that pulls the tide?
Never could find a place to hide
What moves the earth around the sun?
What could I do but run and run and run?
    Afraid to love
    Afraid to fail
    A mast without a sail

    The moon’s a fingernail
    And slowly sinking
    Another day begins
    And now I’m thinking..
    That this indifference
    Was my invention
    When everything I did
    Sought your attention

    You were my compass star
    You were my measure
    You were a pirate’s map
    Of buried treasure

    If this was all correct
    The last thing I’d expect
    The prosecution rests
    It’s time that I confessed..
    I must have loved you

    I must have loved you

    I must have loved you…

Well.. that is a shame MORPH. But I must say I do like your signature picture thingy.. the whole Toon Vader gig is most impressive.

    October
And the trees are stripped bare
    Of all they wear
    What do I care
    October
    And kingdoms rise
    And kingdoms fall
    But you go on
    And on..

I’m not the Mae West at ye olde English … I tend (under a tenuous shroud of national enthusiasm) to Oirland-ify the whole gig to conceal my deficiencies  … Buttttt, now that I’ve returned after my self imposed “decommissioning” I shall endeavour (so I shall) to add a tad more variety to my above mentioned Oirglish… and even attempt an odd Beatle-esque flourish to my Celtic rambling…

    As in…

    For example…

    (gather and surmise)…

“They do though don’t they don’t they though? (to be sure)”

    Indeed.

    It’s a still life watercolour
    Of a now late afternoon
As the sun shines through the curtain lace
    And shadows wash the room
And we sit and drink our coffee
    Couched in our indifference
    Like shells upon the shore
You can hear the ocean roar
    In the dangling conversation
    And the superficial sighs
    The borders of our lives

And you read your Emily Dickinson
    And I my Robert Frost
And we note our place with bookmarkers
    That measure what we’ve lost
    Like a poem poorly written
We are verses out of rhythm
    Couplets out of rhyme
    In syncopated time
    And the dangling conversation
    And the superficial sighs
Are the borders of our lives

Yes we speak of things that matter
With words that must be said
    Can analysis be worthwhile?
    Is the theatre really dead?
And how the room is softly faded
And I only kiss your shadow
    I cannot feel your hand
You’re a stranger now unto me
    Lost in the dangling conversation
    And the superficial sighs
In the borders of our lives

    Simon and Garfunkel
