one of the fiercest rivalries in derbies has got to be blackburn v burnley separated at the closest point by 6/7 miles nestling in their valleys able to give a passing nod to the west pennines.
these two east lancs teams were founder members of the football league, and both had thriving cotton industries where the benevolent(sic) mill owners would give the blokes saturday afternoons off to go and cheer on their respective teams, hence 3 oclock kick offs
few pints in the pub at dinner,it was good for morale apparently
god bless the iron masters for their kindness.
ive got to know a few of the burnley lads, due to living there for 4 years when i was married
had a stall on the market there, and was even a bingo caller at gala 3 nights a week
but i only did that to get all the women, its amazing what having a microphone and powers over their numbers helps
which is probably why my marriage failed :( :D
i also know blackburn fairly well but hate the place, and id honestly say if push came to shove
burnley fans are far more loyal, far more harder, far more mental, rovers fans wouldnt stand a chance, the rivalry is that bitter that when burnley go to blackburn they can only go on designated coaches,no cars,no trains,no walking even you must show your coach ticket to the stewards etc or you wont get in
heard a funny story about a burnley fan who lives near blackburns ground
had to go to burnley to get the coach to come back to the place he had come from and ironically the coach parked where he could see his bedroom window, and after the match all the burnley fans were shepherded to waiting coaches, you werent allowed to break ranks
so off our intrepid burnley fan went onto the bus o burnley got off and got the bus back lol
madness innit.
