More than half of female MPs feel distinctly alarmed by her murder. The onlne trolls can frighten people because of that nutjob, and they know how. Think of how a stalker works. The stalker isn’t a killer or a rapist; the stalker just stalks. The fear enegendered is intense.
Scep, why do you keep comparing the glory seeking busy body to MP’s? She’s as much an MP as any of us.
ahem, Reason. Ministers didn’t exactly want to defend this heroine. When the Daily Mail launched an abusive attack on Court Judges, the Justice (?) Secretary said nothing until she was reminded that she had a certain job to do, no matter what her political opinions were. It’s just that the case was unusually important – it could be the most important one since the 17th century. Threats to rape and murder look kinda bad in a case like that. The Establishment can’t ignore them. ‘Shame’ for the a-holes doing the threatening, though. otherwise, I totally agree with your view that for most people, these threats don’t get the attention. In fact, I think that’s what I actually said, agreeing with arc. Stalking is a very scary thing for women, but the cops take a while before they pay attention.
Ahem, scep, you were trying to make out that the rape and murder threats made this an exceptional case, threats like them online aren’t at all rare.
Oh btw, I was on a jury years ago and one of the jurors on the same case as me was approached by someone outside the courts. When we went back into court the judge told us from then on to make sure we travelled to and from the courts in pairs, ffs it would have been like a BOGOF for anyone wanting to threaten us, your mate Gina would have wanted an escort from the SAS.
My reply was tongue in cheek, I was agreeing with Arc.
I couldn’t give a shyte if the law they were attempting to subvert was at Magistrate level or Supreme court level. The threatening of witnesses involved in court cases goes on daily, I wonder how many of them get the help of a minister – old pals act springs to mind.
I just think that agreeing with people is quite boring. Sometimes I like what people say, and I even like some people. But I think polemic is important in sharpening debate. Drac has the same approach, but she approaches it in a different way,
lol @ polemic being important, just so long as it’s on your terms eh Scep, otherwise you scream “bullying”.
look up the meaning of polemic, Reason. Drac engages in polemic, not bullying; we can be pretty rough with each other in the polemic. Bullying is different. I think the only time I complained about bullying concerned the relentless attacks made on me when my dad was dying, and then died. That was a hard time. I have no idea whether your parents are alive, Reason. If they are, then when one of them finally goes (not for a very long time, I hope), you’ll feel what I felt. If one of them has gone, then what can I say? I like horseplay. I like polemic. There are different rules when someone is going through a death – in my book anyway. No doubt you’ll think I’m whining..if so, then so *shrugs
