 That is easily the funniest thing I’ve read all day. How’s the foot now, Tom?

If the ethics behind the sermon are absolute and unbending, and are agreed with across all faiths, does the past and current state of the world make it impossible to live up to them ?
Because even if we try, failure seems inevitable.

Which then leads to a schizophrenic (ie normal) way of living where everyone knows what is right, and invariably pretends to do so, but NO ONE actually conforms for a myriad of reasons.

We only have those who pretend.

Why even say the Lords Prayer at the christening / marriage/ funeral of loved ones if the tenets aren’t ever adhered to ?
This seems to be a universal betrayal of love to those we profess dearest.

This is silly. Do excuse my sojourn in to your barbaric depths, F3ers, I won’t be long.

The British Empire was founded on cups of tea and the the playing fields of Eton. It is not the winning but the taking part in good spirit that is important. Judge not, that ye be not judged.

And lawks save me from the last Polly Styrene left in the shop.

Amen, hallelujah, hosannah and all that.

    why you saying sorry pikey?

It’s referring to a “novel” written by Ernst Hemingway who was a very sad, sick individual.

I suggest Pikey opts to take the place of a bull in a “bullfight” and suffers the same death. I’d pay money to watch it and would even strap its body up to the back of my car and drag it out the bullring myself.

I was saying sorry to bull-kind, Mr Best Man. I said sorry to them because I consider them a noble beast worthy of an apology for my quiet complicity in their gory sacrifice.

I don’t particularly like bullfighting myself but I think I do understand it. To many Spaniards it is one of, if not the, highest art form(s). Its form is as closely defined and as difficult as ballet – all accomplished in the face of the savage bull.

Anyway, it clearly has artistic merit and I have eaten too much entrecôte to be worried about a few bulls. I’m a speciesist, I’m afraid.

I am worried about this Panda12 contributor, though. I barely know the poster yet they seem to wish me a bloody end for daring to have a differing view nearly every time they come to my attention. Are they the JustChat Taliban or something? Did I miss a meeting?

I think it’s both cultural and art. Neither of which necessarily make it ok.

I think its cultural significance is obvious and needs little explanation. Those cheeky Spaniards love it. It strikes me as art because it allows for form and an expression of humanity within that form.

As I mentioned, none of this necessarily makes it acceptable. I, personally, wouldn’t particularly want to see it banned, though. It enriches a lot of people’s lives (whether we like it or not) and there are much more important things to worry about than the Josés teasing a few cattle.

I’m not sure where this idea comes from that it’s easy, either. I wouldn’t fancy fighting a steaming bull armed only with some kebab skewers.

If there had been no bullfighting, there would have been no magisterial The Sun Also Rises. I’m not willing to make the trade. Lo siento, los toros.

I would make a crystal pool filled with the tears of firmly spanked women that were wearing nothing but a niqab.*

*I should make it clear, in the interests of fatwah avoidance, that I have no requirement for these to be Muslim women. They would have to be reasonably bunky for it to work for me, though.

I am a bit alarmed by some of the sartorial crimes being committed in front of the world’s cameras but, that said, I’m reasonably heartened.

To be honest, I’d given today’s youth up as an indolent lot. I thought they’d been a’ glamoured by their faerie xboxes. Nice to know they’ve got a bit of derring do about them.

Do you think the Green movement is part of a conspiracy, Gaz?

I must say, I’ve always found them to be very well intentioned chaps and chapesses. Take these fine souls, for example.
