That is true to a point. Most of the time we’re pushing shingle back and repairing groins.  On rivers its mostly reinforcement work and channel clearing.

We don’t use that much stuff, but it can be labour intensive.

He better start looking for a new job then Kenty…Kier are in real trouble.  They shut down for financial reasons.

Home builders like Barratt who build houses can afford to shut down for 6 months due to rising house prices.

On bigger projects they cant.  There penalty for over runs in all the contracts.

    See:

From my own view point not repairing sea defences  or carrying out gas checks puts lives and homes at risk.  The winter storms didnt stop and nor did we.

    Ring! Ring!

Joe:  I need to finish work a bit early tomorrow.

    Doa: Why?

Joe:  Broke my leg in 3 places playing football and told me mum I’d pick up a new sofa for her.  It mite take me a bit longer to get it in the van.

Doa:  So you wont be in for 3 months then?

Joe: Fuck that and who are you to dictate to me, boss?

Doa: You cant work with a broken leg.

Joe: I still can boss and  can you give me a hand with this sofa?

Doa: How are you going to drive?

Joe:  Easy peasy lemon squeezy and you have no say in the matter!

Doa: You’re off until the leg heals and if you try to come in before then I’m going to break the other one !!

Joe:  Are you the threatening me?  I’ll come down there and put you on your back you fat sod !!

Doa: Do I have to call your Mum?

Joe:  Why you looking for a new sofa?

Doa: Your not coming back to work until the leg heals and you have a fit note, end of it !!

Joe:  Yes I frking am !!

This carry’s on for another 30 mins.  And ends with ” I can get another job easy and if you don’t want me, I’ll go work for someone else”

I’ve been forced to edit ge’s reply to reflect a real conversation I had last year. Construction workers are notorious for not seeking medical help and continuing work with injury’s.

The construction industry never lockdown and worked normally throught out the pandemic.  You wont find a covid 19 ant vaccer on a building site. There too scared of losing money and spending time with there family’s      B-)

I think working for charity sector isn’t the same as working for the UN.  You get paid for a start and you never cover the cost of travel.  Of course vaccinations are mandatory.  You’re no good to anyone if you get sick or die within days of reaching the 3rd world sh1thole they send you too.

In the UK its a different story. Most charity workers are unpaid and have the support of nhs.

No your idea is to drag people off the streets and put a needle in there arm or withhold public services from those who refuse to vaccinate.

    Not the same thing

    #1139739

I’ve said this before mandatory  vaccination for health workers  would get public support.  Dragging in all the traffic wardens wouldn’t.

Why cant you see the difference?

It was you going on about house prices got me thinking about sell it and I downsize about 2 years ago.

I never discussed house prices with you on Patschat even once. You claimed you sold your “townhouse” five years ago and moved into a converted “farmhouse” out in the sticks in Hove.

    Dumbarse!

Its me sister with the farm house ge !!

My family did talk me into buying  this barn conversion after my first heart attack.  I hated the place and people. Open plan living and snotty noised people weren’t  me.  After 6 months I moved back into my old house in Hove.

I still have it and rent it out at silly money to plastic Londoners with 4 by 4’s and rat dogs.  I did get an offer on it from one of the tenants last year.  There lease runs out soon and I may sell it.
