Back in the 1980’s I took the pizz out of my Dad for keeping long life milk and tinned meat in the house. Buying 25kg bangs of potatoes & 12kg bags of onions. He argued the shops mite run out of food. Being a mouthy teenager I found the idea ridiculous. After the pandemic panic buying I’m realizing he had a point.
If heavy goods drivers go on strike, there a diesel shortage or logistics break’s down supermarket will face shortages.
If there power cuts or power workers strike, supermarkets will close.
Things have move on since my fathers day. Self heating meals are available and chemical lights have replaced candles. Both have a long shelf life. I’m not going to argue for camping stoves unless you have a garden or open space to use them. The risk of carbon dioxide poisoning and fire means the risk is too high.
Please buy a torch !! If you have a torch, make sure you have batteries for it !!!
If you can’t live without your phone, buy a phone charger pack.
Its time to buy black sacks again, the bin men will walk out this winter.

Above all else get used to being uncomfortable. The worst wont happend before the clocks change. Start planing now.
The question is simple: would you save up bits of old soap bars to make a new one?
Only if you had a mental disorder.
Why do it with liquid soap?
Unfortunately in the past year people have became soap snobs. They will judge you by the soap in our bathroom. Even I’ve latched on to this after all the hand washing since covid. I only buy bio d soap now.
With the cost of living increasing small changes make all the different. Using a kettle with a smaller capacity and lower energy needs saves on bills. Walk around your home, don’t leave anything on “stand by”. I’ve even started turning off my router at night before bed. Smart lighting is a winner too.
Stop using any supermarket with “ express or local” in the name. Its shocking how stuff sells 10-20% more than there main stores. Over all shopping “in store” is a rip off design sell you stuff you don’t really need. Add on the cost of getting there and its clear online food shopping even with the delivery its cheaper. You can spend a few days working on the order at home instead of walking around trying to remember what you came in for.

The numbers much higher than you think, not the small amount the government is claiming.
Under the family reunion rules, most arent being counted since there “joint claims or visa’s”.
An example would be: 2 sets of grandparents, mother, father, 2 kids under 18 = 1 visa.
I remember being told back in 2004 not to worry too much about Polish immigrant…less than 100,ooo have arrived. The true figure was over 800,000.
Few have left, most are still here.
The Ukrainians wont be going back, more will come. The Polish government is requesting help dealing with 3.5 million Ukrainians refugees. With more on the way before winter, the UK will come under presure to help.
