    Okay, is the PC already loaded with windows ?? If so, which one is it ??

    Do you want to reformat the whole drive and reinstall windows ??

    Do you want to format PC then install windows ???

    I have formatted a couple of PC’s with Windows 2000 and XP. 2000 I used a boot disk then run from CD, and formatted from there. With XP I ran this in windows then it said that the version on the CD is earlier than on the PC and I would need to reboot and run CD from there – which it did and then you can select format from that.

    errrr hope that made sense……… :D

    For anyone that’s still interested…………yep Morty can confirm you were all right………………..my laptop is well and truly b’lloxed.

    So, if I have the time, patience [and enough vodka] I may try Ice’s idea…………alternatively [if I only have enough vodka but no time or patience] I may chuck it out of the window…………
