Sure, I feel more for people I know, because I know them.
However I’m not impressed when people say that they love their children. That’s not a virtue. That’s the minumum standard expected of a decent human being.
It is in caring as well for those we have no obligation to love and care for, that we become better people. The whole point of stories like the good Samaritan is about caring for people who are different to us, not just people in our own families.
Of course people love their own children. That is no reason to abandon the rest of humanity. If charity starts at home, it surely must not end there or we just sow hatred and division.
As for all the Fascist stuff, it all seems aa bit like “I don’t hate you, I just don’t want you here if you are not like me, or don’t become exactly like me very quickly”. I’m white, with an ancestry from these islands. If I’ve got to be like certain people or made to feel excluded or under threat, that sounds like oppression to me.
Excluding your neighbour and making everyone the same is just tyranny and bullying, but I guess it’s okay as long as we love our children.
