20 July, 2012 at 7:21 pm #504065I’ve taken loads over the years. Most have meant a complete life change. And most have involved travel.
I reckon i was a nomad in a past life.

19 July, 2012 at 6:56 pm #503877People sometimes give too much of themselves, without knowing the person they are trusting very well, I guess. No matter how used to the internet and chat world we all think we are, it is still easy to get taken in by people with no scruples. It is also difficult to factor in those people for whom life is different, whose judgements are skewed a little, and that can cause problems.
If you know you are dealing with someone who can be a bit shall we say flakey, then you adjust your behaviour towards them accordingly. But that can often take time to figure out and by then, it may be a bit too late.
I actually don’t think any bullying is going on at all. I just think that this environment causes misunderstandings and misjudgements and some people can’t deal with the way it pans out. If someone is even the tiniest bit paranoid, chat rooms/msn/etc etc can make them even more paranoid, and distressed. But also, I think the odd person likes to pretend grievances in order to be the centre of attention. They spam the boards with perceived slights and angst and wait for the fall out, along the lines that negative attention is better than no attention at all.
I know I am not saying anything you don’t all already know, so forgive me for preaching to the converted!
19 July, 2012 at 5:52 pm #503874Having seen this kind of thing regularly “over the way”, I have come to the conclusion that she is really not very well. It seems a tad churlish to take the mick under the circumstances. Perhaps we could just leave her to run her usual course and not prolong the agony?
Just a thought.

It’s a way of saying “I don’t think you’re going to like what I’m about to tell you, but please don’t get upset with me, I’m only saying it because if I didn’t the sky would fall in, honest”
 Thank you for pointing out the obvious.

Not reading it, won’t buy it.. had a heated exchagne of views with a couple of girls at work about it condoning violence against women. ok, I know its literature and the Marquis de Sade certainly got a few people palpitating so this isn’t new, but the message it sends is that women like being hurt.
Some good comments on this here thread….. love the review by lazycatfish

Loved this film. Very gentle but dark humour.
This Anglo-Irish black comedy thriller stars Brendan Gleeson as a sleazy, drug-talking, whoring policeman who turns out to be the least corruptible cop in western Ireland.
Of all the local police, only he is of the slightest use to drug-busting, fish-out-of-water fed Don Cheadle as the American tries to arrest a tough trio of hoodlums — the funniest of them played by Mark Strong. It has a sparkling dialogue and is witty and also poignant. The plot is weak, and it has shades of Hot Fuzz about it, but it reminded me of a kind of Irish version of a Tarantino.
Loved it
