no reason why any thread has to keep on track, momes, but you’re heroic in trying to bring arguments together..
Yes, 340 last I saw, tinks, and rising, I think…
but they are a bit mixed..my local news carried headlines of him sexually assaultng a local woman when she was 13, and it turned out to be a French kiss – inappropriate to say the least, even in that tmore tolerant age, but to call it a sexual assault is to describe the night where all cats are black??.. The groping accusations are one thing – the boss calls you in and gives you a very harsh warning, or the cops pay you a visit, depending on how serious it is…it could have been scotched in the bud.
but some of the accusations are very serious indeed, and really should be subject to criminal rules, with nobody gulity until proven innocent…in fact, if he were alive, I’m not sure a lot of this could be handled in this way as it would create a prejudicial atmosphere to any trial. He who becomes wealthy by razzmatazz, dies through razzmatazz…oh, he is dead. One forgets.
Having some dirty old man push his tongue into your mouth without warning would be an assault at any age. If someone tried that on me, I would be furious! It is an invasion of personal space and taking liberties. If a complete stranger were to do that to you, without warning, an old man with cigar breath, would you just laugh it off? You’d probably punch his lights out, so why would it not be assault when done to a child?
11 October, 2012 at 5:30 pm #512017momentary loss, you make some excellent points, thank you.
sceptical guy, you are again saying its the girls fault, and they need controlling, when in fact what momentary loss was saying was more likely to be nearer the truth.
They need protecting… not blamed.
Oh and there were patients abused at both Leeds AND Stoke Mandeville. And I read that they are investigating his connection to the orphanage in Jersey that hit the news a couple of years ago. How much of it can be proved, only time will tell. But never blame young girls for the perversions of 30 something men.

From my memory, underage girls were seen as part of the rewards for pop bands in the 60s. There was certainly plenty of opportunity.
I do hope that any allegations about Sir John Lennon, Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Ringo Starr, Sir Mick Jagger aren’t being covered up!
I’m sure none are made, though, as these gentlemen were surely saintly when it came to girls.
You sound as if you think all men would regularly have had sex with 12 or 13 year old girls. That really does not say much for the male of the species. I know the point you are makiing, but unfortunately, you have done the equivalent to shooting yourself in the foot.

It wasn’t that “anything went in them days” it was that people were very naive, and you could lose your job very easily on someone’s whim. We didn’t have all the employment laws that we have now, and so people within the BBC who knew what was happening wouldn’t have dared to say anything. This would have prevented the police from getting enough evidence. The children themselves would have been frightened, and again had no understanding of how to deal with the situation.
The idea that people thought this behaviour was the norm is incorrect, the opposite was true if anything, nobody would have thought that someone of his ilk would have done what he so sadly did. People were more innocent and less cynical.
quite right too, I am adorable! :D

I hope this isn’t going to turn into some sort of Poli bashing thread

and your point is?
7 October, 2012 at 9:49 am #511962Lovely thought kenty, and very sad.
Well, we are entering the Age of Aquarius… let us hope all change ends up being for the best.
7 October, 2012 at 8:25 am #511959I have to say, we are going to be in for some tough times ahead. Things seem to be changing swiftly with more and more things coming to light that are truly shocking, from the corrupt banks to this kind of thing. We are all going to have to be very strong and caring of each other in the difficult times ahead of us.
