We judge because it’s so easy to do…We are all entitled our opinions of course but i don’t think we can ever understand why a person turns to drugs, suicide or other addictions. I’ve not had anyone in my family with a major drug addiction but i’ve had close family with other sorts of addictions. It’s so easy for us to say they should of said no in the first place but without actually being in their shoes and understanding their problems, we’ll never know why they chose their path.. And of course everyone copes in different ways, instead of judging maybe we should try for some understanding?

Perhaps it was depression, perhaps something snapped more suddenly, none of us will ever know and should we speculate?
Whatever it was his children now have to deal with it for a lifetime.
As someone with 2 children who has had his share of low points I can safely say id never deny myself the chance to see them grow up. Id never deny them a father if it was in my power to do so.
Ive seen many eulogizing Gary Speed and others saying its a cowardly and selfish thing to do whatever the reason. I think ill keep my opinion private! And some people are rubbish at ‘talking’ and prefer to deal with things by themselves. Who’s to say whats right or wrong on that one!
Some very good points desmo………I personally think it takes someone with great courage to take their own life, how can making that final decision be an act of cowardness…….a majority of people who take their own life are suffering from a mental illness, lots go untreated, as desmo says some ppl prefer to deal with it themselves in stead of seeking help…..theres so much stigma related to mental health illness, especially in men and its time to change.

I can seduce you , ill make you my slave
Ive sent men stronger than you to thier graves
Do you think that you posess better taste
Than end up addicted to poppy seed waste
You may start with a smoke one afternoon
But you could! be taking me in your arms very soon
And when ive entered deep in your vein
Your life will never quite be the same
Money youll need loads, or so ive been told
Cos darling i can be as expensive as gold
Youll swindle your family, without any fear
And let your self starve if it gets you your gear
When you meet in the mirror the monster youve grown
Youll secretly promise to leave me alone
So you now think you have the magical knack
Sweetie, try getting me off your back
Vomiting ,cramps, your guts in a knot
Your trembling nerves scream please just one more shot
Hot sweats cold chills the withdrawal pains
Youll feel will only stop ,by taking those grains
Like theres no other way ,theres no need to look
For deep down inside youll feel that your hooked
Youd give up your morals your conscience your heart
And you can be mine until death do us partNot everyone who takes drugs
becomes an addict.its about choices and i respect that
and maybe making them legal would prevent some deaths granted
but not all.
So i thought id share a poem with you allHope this makes just one person think!!
The young junkie, stealing to get her next fix
Living for drugs, for a time she’ll be high
Not once ever thinking, what may be?
“Who cares, if I live or die?”
The father on benefits, can’t feed his kids
Thinking of things that he needs but can’t buy
You say “get some help” you’re kidding!
“Social wont help us they’ll pry
A woman who’s too scared to go out alone
She seems so frightened, so shy
What has happened, to make her this way?
She’s just been raped that’s why
A man who is struggling on his own
An alcoholic who’s trying to get by
Everywhere there’s temptation that we don’t see
It’s a constant battle to stay dry
The women down the road with 2.4 kids
Who you don’t know, is living lie
Suffering day and night at the hands
Of this seemingly respectable guy
Now when I see people in situations
That ive never been in, I now try
To remember this one simple sentence
There but, for the grace of god go Ijust 2 quick poems that related in some way to this topic
Money youll need loads, or so ive been told
Cos darling i can be as expensive as gold
Youll swindle your family, without any fear
And let your self starve if it gets you your gear
When you meet in the mirror the monster youve grown
Youll secretly promise to leave me alonefor me these words are so true! ty for sharing this miss angelb xxxx

I used to work with people who were addicts and recovering addicts – I worked in a mental health environment for over 5 years, but only lasted doing drug work for a few months because I couldn’t take the stories. Yet I was more than comfortable with mental health patients.
In my experience a lot of people who end up addicted to drugs are self medicating… it’s not a choice of ‘trying it’ for a lot of people. It’s an internal (and sometimes external) torture that people cannot cope with. They do not know how to sort their own problems or how to cope with their own pain… they turn to substances which numb them, or make them forget the pain they are suffering.
From our standpoint it is easy to say, simply saying no is the best option, and liken it to any indulgence or temptation… but for the most part the people who end up addicted to substances, are those people who don’t see a point in saying no. They’ve reached the end of the line and will try anything to make them feel better. Yes we can say they should have sought medical intervention earlier, but a lot of people are disenfranchised with the system and wouldn’t admit to main stream help.
I don’t under any circumstances advocate drug use, and am anti it (Yes I drink alcohol and coffee – I am referring only to illegal drugs) but think that it is not as simple as just say no.
I feel for anyone who has to go through the effects of addiction first hand.
some ppl are mentally capable to say no in the first place….I agree not all are but in my personal experience this family member started using soft drugs as a teenager to look cool and all that cr ap then he moved on to the harder stuff well it isnt so cool now because its controled his whole life, hes 43 and has nothing to show for it…..hes the most loving person in the world when he isnt using but when he is hes like a man possessed…making peoples lives a misery
