Disadvantaged doesn’t necessarily mean uneducated. What is more important in a child’s life, loving parents or educated parents?=D> =D> =D>

How were they irresponsible? They couldn’t go on the pill, it wasn’t invented. Infant mortality was so high for various reasons besides poverty that it was the norm to have several children knowing full well that they wouldn’t all survive. Oh hold on…yes, the mothers could have gone for back-street abortions and run the risk of dying and leaving their remaining children motherless.

It’s easy to judge parents of the past by today’s standards but think about what the world was like then. No pill, no abortion, limited birth control, the woman didn’t have the right to say no to her husband when he wanted sex, no social services as we would recognise them today, no benefit system, no employment protection, no minimum wage, no spare cash to save for a rainy day unless you were already rich and living off the backs of the lower classes …if you find yourself jobless and homeless, what do you do? Your choice is to go into the workhouse (when they were still in existence) or give your child to someone who can give them the care and nurturing that you can’t. you will probably never understand this blossy untill you are a parent yourself.
When the practice first started life was cheap, children weren’t even really considered people until reaching adulthood, they were only just above the family animals in the pecking order and on farms even that was debatable, and no doubt at the time it seemed like a good option all round, however the practice continued for far too long. For all we might grumble about the world today, we’ve come a long long way. well said jen jen!!!

And Blossom, I really can’t decide whether you’re a troll, you like playing devil’s advocate or whether you have no empathy and no desire to understand anything beyond your own experience.[/quote] ……all I ever see is blossy trying to stir her large wooden spoon on threads on the boards…..maybe she/he wasn’t socially educated lol………just saying

Don’t want to seem fascist by stating what I’m about to state, but I sometimes think only the educated should have the right to have children, it would save on a lot of grief.

For one example both Maddie McCann’s parents were Doctors and never got a babysitter, massive oversight or bad parenting?

Ok they cant be bad parents as they are Doctors yeah Blossom’?

My point exactly Lucy!!……….and Blossy I reallyyyyy can’t see how it is the parents fault that these kids were shipped out……even if parents were not responsible enough to care for their children then surely it was the responsibility of the British government to ensure those BRITISH children were given a stable upbringing as possible……..not to ship them out because it was simply cheaper to do so. In February 2010, then Prime Minister Gordon Brown apologised for the UK’s role in the scheme, I wouldn’t say this is blaming the “uneducated” parents I would say its the government admitting it made a terrible mistake.

well blossy as an “educated person” I’m sure u already know that our ancestors weren’t as fortunate as we are today in being “educated” I didn’t realise only uneducated people are bad parents?? Does this mean that a person with a degree in engineering would be a better parent than a person who has no GCSE’s ?…………..The mind boggles
