I actually hadn’t a clue why it was deemed offensive when I first heard about it. I’m not that familiar with rhyming sland and thought ‘Ginger Beer’ in relation to a car would have meant ‘quite dear’ or something like that.
If he had said ‘That’s the poofiest looking car I’ve ever seen’ then fair enough. With regards to the ‘n’ word which I would never say to anyone or write down, I remember watching Josie Darby on Loose Women (was off work with a cold) talking about how, in the area she grew up in, it was widely used. She then went on to say it on daytime TV without a care in the world. It’s all about perception.
23 May, 2007 at 3:07 pm #270032Incidentally, I see Eastenders are scrapping a future storyline out of respect. So has the world stopped turning or something and I just wasn’t told?
23 May, 2007 at 3:03 pm #270031I’d apologize if I knew how to

21 May, 2007 at 3:36 pm #271139How did we go from CCTV cameras to the smoking ban? Personally, I’m in favour of both. So what if I’m recorded for a few seconds while I walk down the street? It wouldn’t ruin my day in the slightest. Our new system in the town was responsible for the detection of 200 incidents last year which may have otherwise gone unreported or unsolved. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone round here – criminals and druggies aside – who doesn’t agree.
Yes, Big Brother is watching. But for my money, Big Brother does more good than bad. Some abuse the system but there a lot of people in a lot of jobs who do the same.
21 May, 2007 at 3:07 pm #271244First I’ve heard of it, and I watch Sky News a lot during the day. There’s been plenty of useless information about Maddie though.
20 May, 2007 at 11:52 pm #270010Fair point and it is strange how this is being taken much, much more seriously than other similar cases. But I reckon it’s getting so much (too much I reckon) media attention is due to the fact she’s been snatched in Portugal so the chances of her being taken out of the country are probably deemed higher than if it happened in Britain. Therefore, there is a need for more exposure.
But I am getting sick of all this ‘Breaking News’ etc that tells us sweet FA.
20 May, 2007 at 11:19 pm #270007Imagine what it must’ve been like for the poor sod who sat next to him on the plane. That’s one way to get out of holiday mode anyway.
20 May, 2007 at 6:58 pm #270000BREAKING NEWS ON SKY NEWS…..
Gerry McCann is on his way to the airport cos he’s flying back to the UK. Though it has not been confirmed if he will be flying economy or business, whether or not there will be an in flight movie, what the in flight meal will be or indeed whether or not he will eat the meal.
Sources close to the family suggest, however, that he will probably go to the toilet beforehand so as to avoid going on the plane on the off chance that he may go in after someone has been for a dump or perhaps peed on the seat.
We will keep you updated with more news as it reaches us.
20 May, 2007 at 4:31 pm #268566I saw on the news that he may be sent to Afghanistan. Presumably he’ll be the only British soldier there so’s not to place anyone else in danger?
