wats a paradigm?
Most people who use the word don’t know what it means either – when I joined said big american comany I heard it so often in the first few days I had to go and look it up in case I was missing anything important – I hadn’t heard the word before.
From the dictionary:-
paradigm Definition
nouna pattern, example, or model
Most people who use corporate buzzwords don’t really know what they mean, just use them to sound clever…… :-

“we need a pre-meeting meeting to make sure we’ve got our ducks lined up in a row and are singing from the same song sheet. We need to make sure we’re leveraging all our synergies to fit the new paradigm and that we have identified all the stakeholders, internal and external.”
Sorry, I think i spent too long in management in a very large american company (“that will do nicely sir”) ……
Someone I once worked with decided to see if anyone was listening so replaced the “singing from the same song sheet” to “we need to make sure we’re all playing wih the same shape balls” – oh some of us were listening still (we were playing corporate bingo) and the sniggers were heard around the room, with those that weren’t listening wondering what they’d missed.

kinda not spoken but more of an action… people who copy Ross from friends and put speech marks physically with their fingers at points in their sentance… swines.
I met someone who took this a stage further yesterday, I was on a buying excursion for the shop and dealt with a sales person who “spoke” punctuation, so the conversation went something like this…..
Me: have you got any tea-light holders?
Him: yeah we got them in quartz comma obsidian comma selenite comma….(and so the range went on – I won’t bore you with the rest)
Me: is that just clear quartz?
Him: no we got clear quartz slash rose quartz slash smokey quartz slash milky quartz slash….. (you get the picture!)
Comma? And isn’t slash something you go to the loo for?
Then later:
Me: this amethyst is very dark, is it real or simulated?
Him: it’s quote heat enhanced unquote
I think I’d have preferred the quote marks with fingers a la Ross from Friends than the spoken version :?
I wondered if it was a set-up, was looking around for the hidden cameras

3 October, 2008 at 8:38 am #377371I was ill, had lost my job, and was virtually housebound. I’m a very sociable person and I have some good friends but of course they were at work in the day and there was no-one to talk to, leaving me with too much time on my hands to dwell on thoughts about my illness that took me to places in my mind I’d rather not go. A diversion was needed, and I thought “I just need a chat”, typed just chat into google and hey presto.
Yes, like everyone else I was naive when I first started chatting, and I’m probably still a little too trusting now but I’d prefer to be that way than be an embittered cynic that disbelieves everything and says “hey guys it’s not real” cos for several months for me this was my window to the outside world and it was very real. To the cynic it may seem sad that there are people to whom chat means so much, but when you’re low it can quite literally be a lifeline.
OK, so now I’m better, and I’m back in the big wide world again, and sometimes I wonder “why am I still here?” (especially when the nasties come in  ) and the answer is because there are some good people here, and we do still have a laugh and a banter from time to time, and there’s only so much dusting I can do!
