It is interesting to compare this case to the Louise Woodward case in the USA in the 90’s.

Similar attitudes from the parents of the babies that died but very different outcomes eventually and very different trials. Also it is interesting to see that some prosecution witnesses would not give the same evidence today.

Just this minute on the News is the case of the Irish nanny who is being prosecuted in the same State as Louise Woodward for the supposed killing of a one year old.

Apparently the nasty smell is mercaptan which is added to natural gas to make it more detectable so I guess that works, but it contains sulphur making it smell of rotten eggs.

I suppose the only positive is that it is affecting Paris.

Weather wise we had snow last week but it has rained since and everywhere is like the annual Glastonbury festival.

Mrs T meant it is cold out and you need to keep your extremities warm – especially the old cadbury flake

Speculation over what drove somebody to commit suicide is a waste of time as the only person who can answer that question is not around to do so

    I agree completely Lucy.

My cholesterol level has always been low despite eating totally the wrong foods for that.

Since we moved to France my weight has decreased over that time and I am much healthier in that respect though time and age catch up with you in other ways.

What you eat and drink affects you and not a pre-defined ideology, when you find the right balance then it is good

I am one of those people who when they find an article of clothing they like they buy the same thing in quantity.

For me I go to shops to try things and buy perhaps the first thing of a range I like. For example there is a clothes shop in France called Kiabi, where I found a shirt I liked. They also have an internet site and when they had an offer of buy one get five free then I did so.

Clothing and shoe sizes vary from store to store so often buying online is not good.

Electrical items though are a different matter and I often search and buy online for items I know about like printer cartridges or memory cards

You raise quite a few different points tinks

I agree on the means testing of the fuel payments for the elderly especially due to some of the incomes of the ‘fat cats’. Personally I think it was introduced to help the people with very low incomes but like a lot of ‘good ideas’ was not thought through properly.

Social Care has become a complete farce over the years. It is not about care but about cost cutting. Local councils used to provide the care for people who needed it but in an age where costs have to be reduced the care is tendered out to outside agencies. The same for a lot of things, for example school dinners, where the demands of profit reduce the provision of the product. Council care homes stand empty simply because the funds are channelled in different directions without thought about whether the quality of care is the same (because it is not) but to reduce costs.

When my mother left hospital because a social worker said she could cope for herself, though the simple act of moving from her bedroom to the toilet took half an hour to cover the 6 feet involved, she was given a list of 21 companies that served her area. She rang every single one and not one of them would visit the village she lived in because it was not financially beneficial. Fortunately, and I use the word advisedly, my mother died less than a month later but I think more through desperation then illness.

Government budgeting has always been a case of rob Peter to pay Paul, so means testing fuel payments and speeding fines are far more likely to be used in areas totally alien to where that income comes from
