Dear Mr Trawler
I realise that your thread pour chercher l’amour is in danger of becoming a conduit pour les affaires de notre amicale, but I by way of an update, I would like to express the gratitude of the club both collectively and individually for the sterling efforts of Ms SimplySu and Miss MoneyPenny.
They have conducted themselves in their duties with enthusiasm and rigour. I would never have imagined that our fraternity – including some of our older and less upstanding members – would take such an interest in our previously-neglected literary section.
Just the other day a normally-silent fellow called out “Ah! My America! My New Found Land”. At first it was hard to see where the sound had originated, but after Miss MoneyPenny’s fine form was seen leaving a particularly dark corner, the chap in question could be seen beaming and nursing a large, old anthology of the Metaphysical Poets in his lap. Such enthusiasm for the written word had been previously hidden.
Ms SimplySu has, quite simply, not ceased in her activity since arriving and whether it is the speed of her work or some innate rhythm, her movements have had a near-hypnotic effect on the members who, while maintaining a discreet distance, have increased their use of the Lounge to the extent that even in the cold weather, we have reduced our consumption of logs for the fire due in no small part to the energy stirred by her movements which have given a whole new meaning to the verb ‘sway’.
How she manages to divide her time between our library and her services at your place I really don’t know, but she, and Miss MoneyPenny have earned grateful admiration from us all.
Yours Sincerely
W[/i]

11 C and sunny here today
8 February, 2013 at 3:59 pm #517980We have been fortunate this year and have had a very mild winter with only a few days of snow, which living in a village through which there are no main roads is a good thing as they do not get gritted or cleared.
The late afternoon sun is shining though the temperature is about 6C and will drop to about -2C overnight with a dusting of snow predicted for 7am tomorrow.
Already we have a nice spread of colour from the primula’s and snowdrop,s, and the daffodils will be out soon.
Within the next couple of weeks we will have to prune back the grape vines

Good luck with the catarct operation later today.
Many thanks for the kind wishes for the operation.
Everything went well though the surgeon said the cataract was very big and removing it made the eye swell a lot which was quite painful. She gave me some tablets to reduce the swelling and this morning I woke up without any pain at all. Already the vision is starting to return to the eye so in a day or two I should be able to see much more clearly.
All I have to do now is put a bucket full of various eye drops in morning, noon and night, and then a visit to the ophthalmologist next week to get the eye checked and a new prescription for my glasses
5 February, 2013 at 11:00 pm #512246Leicester car parks are always interesting
I worked in Leicester about 20 years ago and the company car I was given was an Escort RS Turbo – fun to drive but a magnet to car thieves. I watched from 11th floor office as two lads tried to steal it and having failed did a runner. Being so high up it was easy to direct the police right to the lads who had been locked up overnight after a bungled car theft the day before and then released after appearing in court that morning

yeh tinks you are right,i think we should have a thread about sayings, im sure I put an idiom thread in my best man days,or whatever I was called at the time
for instance now I would like to know where the idiom at sixes and sevens comes from
possibly French archers?
or was that the v sign?
anyway tinks you start the thread because im going on my hols for 2 weeks I fly out at 3 am
and I wont be using a comp thank god
nearly said I will see you later tinks lol
but I will be back xxxxApparently at sixes and sevens may come from a French dice game but was a cinq et six
There are many idioms that are very similar between English and French which is not very surprising given where the English language comes from. One I like is that One swallow does not a summer make which is almost the same in French except summer is replaced by spring
3 February, 2013 at 2:12 am #517886adhd may cover it
but I would guess a simple search on google would come up with the same results without having to go through nigh on 600 pages of words and letters
but then lots of people enjoyed the game called trivial pursuit

Lost your glasses J??
Cataract op on Wednesday Mrs T
Hope it all goes well J :D
Thanks Mrs T, but I have met the surgeon – blonde beautiful female so I am sure it will be good ;)
Let’s hope she is a blonde beautiful female AFTER the operation!
Kidding x best wishes
lol Stu when she gave me a good seeing to the other day forcing herself on me – well to be truthful it was some instrument she used on me – the fact was that she was wearing high heels and pink leather trousers – I have to admit that her tender ministrations will be most welcome – she even said she would speak to me in English and how can I not enjoy that
