I heard on the radio when this “Tax the fat” came out. What about rugby players? They are overweight but fit healthy? No one on the radio could answer it and a health minister or whatever i cant remember now said they would have to be taxed if it came out as they are overweight!?!?! Now to me its stupid full stop but rugby players are fit healthy and muscle is their weight problem!
My point is where do you draw a line?

Thats why I said fat, not muscle bound!!

Ok, I’ve tried really hard to ignore this thread (sorry Rubes….) but I cant.

My beautiful 16 year old daughter has suffered with Anorexia since she was 13. She has had many ups, and believe me, many, many lows. No one can pinpoint the exact reason for the onset of an eating disorder, but she will tell you that part of her wants so hard to conform to what society deems acceptable, i.e. slim women not fat.
(She has never been overweight, even before her eating disorder.)

For the past three and a half years, she has attended hospital and been assigned her own dietitian and therapist for her disorder. I, as a mother, felt I was in someway to blame for not being able to control this disease. I wanted to make her ‘well’ again but I couldnt. Subsequently, I had to attend therapy in order to make me realise that no one is actually to blame.

My younger daughter and husband also had to attend sessions in order to help us understand what was going on with Katie.

Therefore, in this instance, a ‘thin’ person has cost the NHS quite a lot of money.

Thin people also cost a lot of money, and thin people lose lives as well.

Therefore, should she be taxed for being thin?

Live and let live. No one person has the right to judge another until they have walked in their shoes and understood their circumstances.

In percentage terms, anorexia is far outweighed by obeseity, we are fast behind the americans I fear. Obviously it couldnt be cut and dry, there would have to be lines to draw. If someone is suffering from a physical illness such as cancer then weight is something that cant be controlled and in that instance there is no justification for taxation. If someone is just plain ignorant, after being given advice and help then tax should be another way to deter people from gorging themselves. I watched a program about the fatest teenager in britain the other day and he litterally had 5 years left, he had a large operation which took longer than normall because of the fat layers, to shrink his stomach and make him sick if he ate more than he should, and even then with his mum and girlfriend supporting him he still ate till he was sick, with the attitude that if you’re meant to die young then so be it!! In the end he managed to control himself. People say they are fat because of stress, which I take as an excuse for lack of self control. As for your daughter its very sad that she is in a black hole I have been in a similar hole before and it was the strength of the people around me that helped me. I was rescued I suppose!! And now I am strong, and see the world in a new light.

I must be living in a parallel universe …. I have yet to find the signals which say fat is good!

We are bombarded with information nowadays, regarding what we should/should not eat, what percentages of saturated fats/salt/E numbers/calcium/vitamins/proteins are good/bad for us …. We are more aware nowadays of what we put in our mouths and its likely consequences than we have ever been.

To say that we condone fatness is very silly indeed ………. In my humble opinion

Fair doo’s I say what I see, thin celebs plastered over mags with anorexic written on and larger celebs with luscious curvy ladies written on!! The general coments on this forum are as I suspected!! Says it all really.

Why is it that society finds fat people accetable? If a person in magazines or on TV is slim we moan about creating a bad image for young girls, but when fat people appear in public, we congratulate them and tell them how good the are, so we condone fatness, making young people think that being fat is right. Double standards again, no thin people more fat people thats the message we are sending. It is not ok to be overweight, it costs us money and people loose lives. Human rights seem to sway us into accepting fatness and never being negative about it. I think we SHOULD tax the fat!!

omg what planet r u on???????????????? dont you dare judge anyone without knowing the facts, people with eating disorders, or of different sizes???? are you saying they are bad people??????? you know what try attacking an issue that really matters , anyway since when did a fat perosn get congratulated :?: :? :? human rights does not sway us anyway at all, human rights gives people who r ‘different’ to in some peoples mind the right to be treated with respect……..any way how many people do you know that are perfect weight for height, dont smoke, eat a well balanced diet all the time, dont drink, dont do drugs,,, show me the perfect person ????????? ive yet to meet them………

so before you go knocking you fellow human being, be outraged about something that matters ffs, and for information yes i guess im classed as fat, im a size 20 and have more energy and get up and go than my own kids sometimes who are size 8 and 10…….. and half my age……i cant believe im trying to justify myself to a person who started such a moronic thread ffs

hitler beleived in the perfect race hmmmmmmmmm I rest my case……..

You are a size 20 I dont expect you to agree! How am I knocking anyone? Overweight people cost the NHS billions of extra ££’s every year so they should pay for it, instead of making excuses. And society rambling asking who’s perfect, what a cop out. Hopefully smoking will be banned soon and yes I agree with taxing more on booze and air travel too. Obviously we cant put taxes on drugs since they are illegal!!!! Anyway this debate is about overweight people not drinkers smokers and junkies, why are you trying to sway the subject?

This has been covered many times. Fat to me is as bad as thin. If you are too thin you are felt sorry for and put into a clinic to “recover” but if you are fat then you are disgraceful! Fact is tax the fat tax the skinny!!!! Both can kill and both cost tax payers money so look at it from both angles before you judge!

I always do!! Over weight people cost the NHS billions of extra ££s every year so they should help to recover those costs simple as.

Slim peopel dont get maoned about, its THIN people that get roared at.
Its up to the individual on what they chose to be, it is afterall a choice. If your heavy you can diet. If your anorexic there is help available.

As for your last comment, what utter s h i t ! What about smokers? Drinkers? Drug users? Should we tax them per hit?
Or is it you have issues with weight?

We can hardly tax drugs can we? They are illegal so surely taxing them would condone them  Yes I agree more tax should be added to cigarettes too but hopefully it will be banned soon. And yes more tax on drinkers too!!!! If you can diet when heavy then do so!

    How does ‘stfu’ sound?

My morals & values are superior to all.

I never said breastfeeding is sick, so stop being a French ba stard twisting my words.

I said having it on the front page of a magazine where pervo’s, sicko’s, paedo’s and innocent young children get an eyeful of it.

So what do we do? lock kids away and never allow them on the street incase a paedo is walking down and catches a glipse of them? Stop displaying under wear in shops incase a pervo stops and has a feel of a bra? Ban children from television incase a paedo is watching? If people are sick or pervy that is their problem we arent born with clothes on so why should anyone cover up for another persons benefit?
