I have to say that i’m in agreement with what I suspect lies behind GAZLAN’s post “I wonder who stole his childhood…”
I suspect that when we eventually drill down into these type of children’s backgrounds (i.e. violent rapists and so on) we will find that they have been exposed to the most terrible upbringing possible.
This isn’t to say that ALL children exposed to this sort of stuff end up that way – but I suspect that a substantial number do.
I also think that, in spite of this, they must be appropriately punished for the crimes they commit. Inevitably this will mean a lengthy period of imprisonment. If they emerge ’embittered’ and commit further crimes – then back inside they must go for an even longer period.

What made me laugh is when Asda did their own brand card!
As if any female would appreciate THAT!!
Exactly!!! Women are never even slightly grateful for the small kindnesses shown to them.
(It’s the thought that counts ….. UNLESS your gift is not seen as being sufficiently expensive!!!)
27 January, 2010 at 9:58 am #429661I liked the irony of the postscript of the press report I read in this.
Apparently the boy is now undergoing a course of “anger management therapy” which it was said he is finding “helpful”.
Pete’s point as to ‘remorse’ is quite right. he didn’t show any remorse after the rape did he? Only, probably following advice from his lawyers, in court did he “show remorse”. (“Sorry about that, I didn’t mean to do it etc”) Hmmmmmm!

Wonder why PB ‘s been down the baby item isle at Sainsbury’s
I visit the baby aisle to buy talcum powder & cotton wool pads for Mrs PB….. ‘cos that’s where they are located.
FYI – the bumper packs of baby wipes are on a big pallett inside the front entrance so you have to walk past them on the way in.
26 January, 2010 at 4:32 pm #429517BTW: Here’s a tip for the tight fisted amongst you. Sainsbury’s are offering a Giant 4 pack of Pampers baby wipes for only £1….. yes, that’s 4 x 80 wipes for only £1. WOW !!!
Grab some ASAP and save those curtains eh?

Mr Velvet is of the opinion that it is all a commercial ripoff so lucky old me gets sweet nothing every year… this goes for easter anniversarys and xmas too… he’s such a giving soul and im lucky if i get a birthday card
…..and he’s 100% absolutely right!!! Valentine’s Day is a total commercial ripoff solely designed to make women feel good about themselves and feel wanted.
Men are in essence blackmailed into splurging out on stupid gifts at inflated prices with the threat of “You don’t really love me any more” if they choose to be frugal. This is of course before the ‘refusal to copulate’ card is played.
So, in their untiring search for ever more fornication, men are ripped off vast amounts of hard-earned cash and all in the name of St Valentine.
So then PB, have you decided yet what your buying for senior management, or still unsure   8)
Well I tried to buy some old & very cheap Valentine’s cards at Matalan last year – but the tight fisted locals got them all before me. Hmmmm
Senior management isn’t the problem – she’s Italian and they don’t do Valentine’s Day there. The big problem is my daughter. SHE literally demands a card from her Daddy – and how can I refuse???
I refuse to go out for dinner (see above reasons) so I shall prepare a ‘bumper’ meal for supper and then sit back all smug & self-satisfied secure in the knowledge that my ‘Brownie point’ score has been added to and I’ve saved loads of money into the bargain.
I call that a ‘win win’.

I simply wanted to assist JC members by clarifying their voting options.
26 January, 2010 at 1:48 pm #429533Now come on !!! You know i’m talking absolute sense. The cost of a measly bunch of flowers in the run up to 14th February will at least double and in some places treble in price, or more.
On 15th February, as if by some sort of magic, they revert back to their ‘usual’ price.
God forbid that you should take out a second mortgage to buy a bunch of a dozen roses prior to the 14th. Wait until 15th and they’ll be begging you to buy them.
All you’ve got to do chaps is to zip it up until 15th and you’ll save a fortune. If you really can’t wait – go to a ‘professional’ …. they’re a damn sight cheaper in the long run than ‘amateurs’.
26 January, 2010 at 1:42 pm #429514I really can’t understand why you lot are going on about curtains – vs – blinds etc. What on earth do you think handkerchiefs are for???
I don’t know ….. the younger generation these days know nothing huh?
