But I have never understood the incessant whinging about speed cameras being a only a money generating device, and how unfair it all is etc etc.
Forgive me if I’m being too logical but the answer to them is really very simple ……. don’t break the speed limit !!! Easy really huh?
Speed cameras are set to ‘flash’ you if you exceed the set limit by more than 10% + 2mph. so in a 30 mph limit, you can do 35mph and get away with it; in a 40 mph limit – 46mph; in a 50mph limit – 57mph; and so on.
I really fail to see why those caught speeding by cameras whinge so much. They were
well over the legal limit -they should pay their fine and get over it.PB
Speed cameras will flash once you are over the speed limit set on the road you are travelling.
This was the proposal put forward by the Government Fairer speeding fines proposed –
One issue of PB’s i do agree with – dont break the speed limit – if they save one life then they are worth it.

Explosion, Derbyshire
An explosion occurred in a bungalow adjacent to the landfill site at Loscoe during March 1986, when a large fall in barometric pressure occurred (29 millibars in 7 hours).The explosion destroyed one bungalow, and the resulting investigation showed two more houses had been unfit for habitation for the preceding nine months, and others for short periods.
The site was used as a brickworks from the mid-nineteenth century until the early 1970’s, the quarry in which it was situated comprised an elliptical hole with three stepped quarry faces. The quarry was part filled with inert waste products from the brick making which ceased in 1971.
Permission was then granted for the tipping of inert materials only, and from 1973 to 1975 a number of companies tipped at the site, until one firm acquired the sole rights, and in 1978 purchased the site. During 1977 a licence had been granted to tip a wide variety of wastes, including 50 tons per day of untreated domestic waste.
From 1977 to 1982 amendments to the licence were granted to increase the quantities of domestic waste tipped, despite complaints from the residents of adjacent houses of vermin and flies. Houses surrounded the site on all four sides, those on the fourth side were built in the 1970’s.
The first signs of gas generation were in 1984 when lawns and trees began to die in the surrounding gardens. Later the soil around the affected areas began to heat up. This is thought to be have been due to the presence of methane feeding bacteria.
After the explosion Derbyshire County Council monitored methane levels in the houses at regular intervals and attempts were made to draw the gas out of the tip by horizontal and vertical methane extraction wells. This proved only partially successful due to a perched water table (Open University literature 1989).
Flow rates of landfill gas generated from the site measured subsequently were 150-200 cubic metres of gas per hour at a 30-35% methane content, with 3-4% oxygen: or approximately 45-70 cubic metres of methane per hour. After the explosion this gas was extracted, and this was achieved by 17 wells, and the extracted gas was flared off through a purpose built pump and flaring unit.

Every bloody time the Lefties and their assortment of unwashed hangers on decide to hold a ‘peaceful protest’ about some cause celebre or other (and use this as an excuse to go on a criminal rampage through the streets) – it gives rise to the same old ‘bash the Bill’ stories for days and weeks afterwards.
Have you noticed that, in amongst all the masked and hooded up ‘protestors’, are hundreds and hundreds of Press photographers – all crowding round desperate for a compromising picture???
They aren’t interested in photographing (or videoing) some unwashed hoodlum baiting and taunting Police or throwing stuff at them. All they want is the ‘action’ photo of a police officer responding to the provocation. Front page news: “Police attack innocent student / housewife / mother of 4” etc etc.
There are times when I really think that the answer is for Police to say “Sod it – let them riot and burn the place down. Let’s see if the Press want to put THAT on the front page complete with the identities of the thugs.”
The rat pack need to don riot gear and go trudging and wedging on the front line – they would soon tell a different story .
