Well, I think we are finally arriving at some sort of decision. The market is determining which o.s. you use basically. I have corresponded with the uni techie guys and they reckon a laptop with Vista, with a big Ram and Harddrive, will be the way forward. The uni are upgrading to Vista anyway. Also to get Office 2007.
Also, her course is more marketing than design, despite it’s title and hopefully won’t be too graphics intensive!

Yup, I know all about the cost. Our son finished uni last year and is now working to pay off debts! We helped out as much as we could.

It’s worse for kids now though. Whereas before, the fees were £1,000 a year, but now they will be £3,000 a year, for which our daughter’s had to get out a second loan. Her first loan won’t even cover the cost of her accommodation.

No pressure eh!

Thanks for replying and for your advice, doa. Hmm, thats expensive getting Office 2007 on a Vista laptop when it costs so much already.

Maybe I can get a student version of it or something.

Still a nuisance trying to get all the software I have on my computer to run on Vista I bet…hmmm. Shame it’s come at a time when she needs a decent working computer and not one that needs updating with drivers and patches everywhere. (By the way she’ll be doing Advertising with Design, so graphics are important).

I’m still in shock – didn’t see that one coming. It isn’t fair! It’s such tragic news :(

Ped/JA was a good and loyal friend to me in JC. He would protect me from the “baddies” and his sense of humour was unsurpassed. What a wicked way with words! Not everyone got it, and I was often explaining to confused newbies, that was his way and that we all loved him for it! No-one else could call me a mumbling mutant and get away with it!! hehe

I’ve often mentioned this moment, but it is one of the classics in JC and something that still makes me smile when I think back. I always tried to rise to the challenge to make Ped crack up. We were in the quiz and the question was “What is a baby whale called?” Obviously loads of funny answers and I was already giggling, knowing that Ped was losing it….so… I said “Sperm”. I think he had trouble controlling himself that night – tears, laughter the lot. His reaction was infectious and had us all rolling.

Sigh. I will miss him loads. JC won’t be the same, nor will the quizzes, but we must all carry on in the way he would’ve liked us to, with humour, good banter and respect.

My heart goes out to his family his friends in JC and especially to mims.

I was touched that mims said he liked me and regarded me as a mate. That’s cool, thanks Ped – I felt the same.
