When I go to add/remove programs in my control panel, I have loads of these:
Windows 2000 Hotfix – KB then random 6 digits.
Anyone know what they are? And whether I can get rid?
Don’t want to that Herman m8, those are the patches that we all get from good old Billy Gates to protect our humble desktops from going wrong, they bolster up things like security leaks in software eg Windows, Office, Media player etc etc, when they bring out the latest Service Packs (Service Pack Three for XP due out soon) it is usually all the hotfixes rolled into one.
Sorry m8, got to live with em

A friend of mine has been trying now for a few days to get into JustChat to use the rooms without any success. I’ve just spoke with her on the phone and she explained that when she gets to the signing in page there is no grey box where you can fill your user name in and enter the forum but just a white box with a cross in the corner (although all the JC advertising and links are on the page).
I guess this has got something to do with installing Java but I have never had to manually download Java to get into any chat room.
Any ideas?
Get her to try this Fasty.
Oooooo Batters!!!…………… :P :P

Done that a few days bk Drid, no effect! GRRRRRR
I did delete firefox browser though cos it was mega slow, could it be that?
The browser I use is ancient (according to a mate) but its ok for most things :DPossible, with Firefox you need to install plugins that IE 7 come already equipped with, regarding IE 7, it is improving no end and I have no problems with it now as the earlier set up had caused, the other things I always keep up to date are my systems codecs, K-lite do a superb range, I install these on every build to compensate for the lack of browser and media player codecs, just download/install/forget couldn’t be easier, also works with WMP
Once installed goto ‘configuration/fix codecs tool’ and run , then run ‘fix Xvid decoder’http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
I will be very suprised if that isn’t the fix needed, nearly forgot, when you install, setup asks you to choose ‘windows media player classic’ as the default player, uncheck these as I am sure your existing player is 100% better.
Let em know m8
Thanks Druid, I have installed the base pack and tested playing a video and it works properly again! I havent bothered going to configuration cos its working perfectly.
You are a true legend Druid, many many thanks mate! :DCheers Hermy,

I’ll see what it’s like tomorrow, I’m hoping it’s just a 24 hour thing. I’d rather not have to set up a new account (as I’ve stated, I’m not technically minded) but if it comes to that, then so be it.
Unfortunatly PC’s don’t often get 24 hour things John, not like us human’s, usually a second account is a user account and depending on ‘who’ it is settings can get changed, rather than hunt them down, which is difficult due to the many changes that can be made it’s far easier to do as I suggested, even for the technically minded finding the faults can be time consuming to say the least, save any of the users pictures or music or files etc to your own files or better still on a CD or USB.
Rather than explain here, I suggest you go to Help and Support section on your PC, type in ‘Delete Account’ and follow the instructions from there, it’s not that difficult to do, just allow yourself a bit of time to do it in.
When done go back in and type Add Account, the Help & Support section is a valuable tool and a good reminder on how to do stuff.
If at the very worse you are unable to delete the faulty account as it may be a second administrator’s account, just set up a new one with a different name and ignore the other.12 June, 2007 at 9:36 pm #273341I assume if you have two accounts one is the administrator and the other a user?
If the one playing up is the user delete that account and set up a new one.

Max ffs get a grip. Your pc was bought from a “mate” for 50 quid right? No wonder the useless heap of junk doesn,t work properly. Coupled with the fact it,s windows 2000 ffs. Do what PB would suggest. Burn the poxy thing, claim on the insurance and get a new one, preferably windows XP. From a SHOP!
Twassack. :lol:Blimey all that advice wasted……….
