14 March, 2006 at 3:34 pm #203692How come all you Scotties are missing the great Jim Baxter out ??
I have seen that many great players – Best will always be the best for me .
Gascoinge was always overrated in my opinion – there again I am a mackem , Jim Smith at Newcastle was a tremendous player though .My first live match at Sunderland was v Man U – we had Hurley , Kinnell and Baxter – they had Law , Best Charlton and many more
Since then Colin Todd was a great player , as was Dave Watson who served the red and whites well – both as Centre forward and Centre Half
Then I used to love watching the likes of Tony Currie , Frank worthington , Stan Bowles , Rodney Marsh , Don Rogers , Steve Coppell , Peter Beardsley
ffs the list is endless – how can i pick 11
My dad always said that Len Shackleton was the best ever

I agree Oss – they are different types of players though ; Rooney drops back into midfield to lose his markers , Shearer is more of an out and out striker .
Although I am a diehard mackem Shearer has been superb throughout his career – but shouldn’t he have gone to a decent team to win some trophies ???
YOUR JUST JEL COZ U HAVE NEVER HAD A DECENT STRIKER U HAD PHILLIPS BUT HE WAS SH1TE ALSO
AND ROONEY WILL NEVER BE AS GOOD A STRIKER AS SHEARER GOALS SPEAK LOUDER THAN A RUN AROUND A FIELD!! IF YOU DONT WANNA COMPAIR HIM TO SHEARER DONT CALL HIM A STRIKER IF U WANT TO COMPAIR HIM HEL COME SECOND EVERY TIME POOR ROONEY
On to Sunday’s match – and it’s ROONEY 2 Shearer 0
Attempts on goal MAN UTD 1,268 Newcastle 5
ROONEY 20 Shearer 0
Anyone – well perhaps blinkered Toon fans apart – can see how good Rooney is – and he will get better
13 March, 2006 at 9:40 am #203540We also had the magic of Rooney , the brilliance of Henry – and that t wt kamara scoring with a great shot to spoil Bally’s debut as manager

The one thing in life that totally terrifies me and has done since he was born, is the thought of losing my son. Sometimes i find myself lay in bed at nights imagining the most awful things happening resulting in his death, or thinking what if something ever happened to me, who would he live with, who would ensure he got all the love and attention he needed.
Probably sounds totally looney but it is the one fear i don’t think i am EVER going to get over.
If we bother ourselves and get uptight about things that haven’t actually happened – but you obviously don’t wish them to happen – then we will never have time to live life to the full
Enjoy every moment that you spend with your son – but for fcks sake don’t spoil it by imagining the worst – live for the day
If and only when something happens then deal with it then – please don’t waste your time imagining the worstMy pet fear is heights – if i actually got too close to the edge of a cliff or tower etc – i’m sure i’d just jump !!
10 March, 2006 at 11:55 am #203323I’d go North and take the test in Scotland Galaxy
If Mary passes her test after mounting a kerb and reversing into a lamp post – you’d probably have to knock someone over to fail there !!!!!!
10 March, 2006 at 10:18 am #203042True Romance is a good film too Sian ,I agree
That scene you re-enacted is brilliant . how many other directors can get big name actors to play “bit parts” – they must have a lot of respect for the guy .
Saying that he spoiled the film with an over the top shoot out scene at the end
My favourite Tarrantino film is Jackie Brown10 March, 2006 at 9:42 am #203128That’s not a daft bet Lancs – we had money on them a couple of months ago at good odds
There’s some bloody good teams left in it now – whoever wins will have to be on top form10 March, 2006 at 9:36 am #201711Liverpool don’t have any strikers at the moment to enable them to make a push for the title
As Soulie said before Man Utd have too many ordinary players now – Fletcher , Richardson etc – not a patch on the Arsenal youngsters
As Roy Keane said ” How the fck the Scottish rate Fletcher so highly is beyond me”
Chelsea looked mediocre against Barcelona – they have slipped from their standard in the last couple of months – once you lose the “invincible” tag then doubts set in . Lampard hardly got a kick of the ball on Tuesday – and Drogba can’t play against intelligent defending – Crespo should have been on from the startAs for Newcastle – pack your bags now Owen and go to a decent team – Newcastle will never win anything with Shepherd at the reins and Ameobi on the pitch !!!!!!!!
9 March, 2006 at 4:27 pm #203126Mebbes he’s in a Transit Van !!!!!
Anyway – good luck the Gunners – I agree on their day playing their flowing football and with Henry on song , they are a match for anyone .
How to stop Barcelona – that’s the problem – Ronaldinho looks to be on top form at the minute superb player
