LONDON (Reuters) – Twelve people were arrested overnight after trouble erupted at a rock festival as heavy metal band Guns N’ Roses took to the stage, police said on Monday.
Police were called to the “Download” festival in Donington Park, Leicestershire, shortly after midnight after reports of fires being started.
When officers arrived, missiles were thrown at them while they tried to restore order, a police spokeswoman said.
Around a dozen people were arrested for a variety of offences, including assault and criminal damage. Nobody was seriously injured.
Headline act Guns N’ Roses closed the three-day festival which was attended by about 75,000 people.
Two young fans were crushed to death during the band’s last appearance at Donington Park in 1988 when thousands of fans surged towards the stage.
