cottage pie (made with beef mince) serves 4/5

mincemeat 500g
carrots – about 3 peeled and chopped
onions – 1 med peeled and chopped
oxos
packet of knorr spring veg soup
potatoes

put the mince in a pan with about a half a pan of water (medium size pan) , bring to the boil and leave simmering for about 30 minutes. using a potato masher break the mince down with just the same action as mashing potatoes, simmer for a further 20 minutes, mash down the mince again to break it up some more.

Add the onions, oxos dependent on how many you intend to serve with it add one oxo per person) and veg soup and chopped carrots, cook for a further 30 minutes. then reduce the liquid by half by boiling quickly , then add gravy granules or cornflour to thicken gravy if needed. (a lot of people think mince should just be cooked quickly but the longer its left cooking the softer and tastier it is. ) put all the mixture into a suitable oven container.

boil potatoes till tender, mash with butter and milk and put on top of mince mix. put into the oven and cook till top is brown.
