Then berate our government and not the migrant workers.

As for minimum wage.. if it wasnt set it’d be lower

    not sure i agree pete
i think the minimum wage sinario has kept wages down companys just shrug and say we pay minimum wage take it or leave it and then exploit migrant workers who have little or no choice
lets be honest who can live a decent life on minimum wage

Pete does have a point that if there wasn’t a minimum wage set, albeit not exactly a huge amount, it would be even lower, it is in some parts of the country. There are unscrupulous business people paying illegals! a pittance. The law, fortunately, is coming down more and more on them, as it should.

As for living a decent life on minimum wage Thin. I never said it was easy, it isn’t, so in one way I agree. But people would be entitled to other benefits, ie., housing and council tax benefits, if you have children to support there are other allowances you can get which all added together, gives people a fairly decent standard of living.

£5.73 per hour for workers aged 22 years and older
A development rate of £4.77 per hour for workers aged 18-21 inclusive
£3.53 per hour for all workers under the age of 18, who are no longer of compulsory school age

I think your right Pete. Those ^^ are the minimum rates of pay. The people in the job centre, the ”not getting out of bed for that” ones, have only themselves to blame. Because the migrants will!

Some of these people, the countries they come from, the conditions they live in, we’d not be able to cope for a day of it!! £5.73 an hour to them must seem like a kings ransom, and they’ll work all the hours for it too, and who can blame them!

Tictax, I don’t want or mean to undermine what your saying, in a lot of ways I do agree. However, the attitude of some really doesn’t help does it. Iv’e been to the local jobcentre a few times over the last weeks and months. Not for myself but my son has been looking, when wev’e maybe gone into town centre for shopping and he’g gone in the job centre. How any people have we all heard in there, saying, ”oh i aint even gettin outa bed for that”,,,ok its minimum wage, i’m on minimum wage, but it’s a wage. Mostly those same pple would still get some help in benefits also, but at least they’d have a little self respect too. They don’t want it though.

My own son, fortunately is working again. He contacted a place he’d worked at before, asked if they were taking anyone on, he was told they had a different ‘in house’ agency now and to go along and register. He did, he was called later the same day and asked if he was interested in permanent nights, he drives a fork lift. He’s been back now for 3 weeks and he’s very happy, nights suit him, he’s a bit of a night owl anyway, but on the whole, he’s happy to be back working.

That’s what some people will have you believe but where I work they’re queuing up next to the the clocking out machine ten minutes before the end of shift.
Does anybody here rate them as hard workers? My experience tells me different but I’m only making my judgement based on the 15 or so that I work with.

My brother, who used to do building work, often said that the poles were among the hardest working people on the site. So in fact, were the Kosovans, he used to say that the lazy ones were mainly the so called brits, who if they could find a way out of doing a particular job, would!

Many years ago Sarah, I worked in Fords. What you said about the poles being the first ones at the clocking off machines, ten minutes before. The men! used to leave the line long before the women did, and would be standing at the clocking off machines much longer than 10 minutes

Consult who you wish to GM, I don’t personally feel that there was anything confrontational, argumentative or aggresive in my reply, which was after all to JL. I’d say it was more fact
