Ruby,,,,,,,,, I apologise, I’ll admit my ignorance and say that I didn’t realise what they were, I thought you were just kidding around  You have a point though, and like I said too about the childs crucifix, it can’t be one rule for one and a completely different one for others.

what a ridiculous argument. surely NO knives at all should be worn.

    Seriously though

Some of these ‘Kirpans’ can be up to 5ft in size, how long will it be before they start demanding that they’re allowed to carry them in public, quite apart from school. The law already states that these weapons are allowed to be carried in public, due to them being part of the religion/baptism and banning them would be seen as being discriminatory!!

Oh and just one other point,,,,I was reading some of the other Telegraph stories, one of which was about a young child being told she wasn’t allowed to wear her cross and chain because of health and safety reasons,,,,this was a faith school and the child was following her faith in wearing the adornment, she wasn’t allowed tho,,,,,on the other hand, sikh children, attending the same school, were allowed to wear their bangles because it was part of their faith, smacks of discrimination eh  it does to me anyway. Surely it has to be the same rules for all, anything else is discrimination,,,,,, isn’t it!!??

Pete I think your absolutely right, it’s madness, especially in todays climate of knife crime. That’s not to say that this boy will use it maliciously, but theres a first time for everything, and to use the excuse that it’s never been known to happen so far, is sheer lunacy. You know tho Pete, that no matter how long this plays out, or how much of the tax payers money is thrown at it in appeals, the judgement will stand, I can already hear the cries of the human rights brigade

If kents mum wears a pendant sized Kirpan because she understands the problems, and in wearing the pendant, she’s still abiding by her baptism rules (i’m sorry if that’s the wrong term), then why can’t this boy!! His parents would perhaps then be seen as being reasonable at least, instead they’re just being pedantic and wholly un-reasonable!

I agree with what Kent said there, that had the CCTV shown them selling the alchohol themselves they would have been prosecuted, or at the very least! received a warning, dependant upon the officer at the time  It happened quite often in the offie I worked in, the local police though, got used to the idea that no matter how much the youngsters told them they’d bought it in our shop, they knew they hadn’t.

On the issue of the cigarettes tho, i’m sure I don’t have to tell Kent the law and I don’t want to come across like i’m teaching a grannie to suck eggs, as they say. But! selling cigarettes to that woman, knowing that she’s purchasing them for her daughter, is also against the law, your quite within your rights to refuse her service saying that you believe she’s purchasing for underage, no argument. Either that or run the risk of being caught doing it, depends what you consider is the greater risk, but your quite right, they can, and will! if need be, revoke your licence.

On the whole smoking issue anyway, I don’t think the goverment are ever going to be able to stop it completely. They make far too much money out of it for a start, for all the right noises about how much it costs the NHS etc etc., Complete prohibition would just mean a return to a black market method of obtaining them, pretty much the same way that people find and buy drugs.

I think anyone convicted of these types of crimes in these kind of circumstances forfeits all rights to live in a civillised society, I don`t have the answers but I know what we`re doing isn`t either.

I couldn’t agree more Nemesis. Not only is the justice system at fault here and whoever saw fit to regard this animal as being ok to be allowed out of prison, but it’s the prison system itself thats also at fault, major fault!!

I personally think we should learn some lessons from some of the U.S. prisons, where when they go to prison there, they go to prison!, they wear a uniform, not their own clothes, they’re treated like prisoners, not like guests at a bloody 5 star hotel!! which is how it should be! The bloody human rights bill needs to be shredded into a million pieces and thrown out.

A child maybe, you going to be saying next that he didn’t know right from wrong, and therefore he didn’t know what he did was wrong.

The little scrote bragged about it, used her! phone to call home and knew exactly what he was doing. I hope he rots!

Cath was only saying this the other day Velvet, about those two young brothers, and that they’ll get all the help and support they need, whereas their victims, and no doubt this will be another case in point, have to fight to get any help or support at all

I agree to with PB and Pete, the only reason he’s showing any remorse is because he got caught and is going to be punished, well punished? is that what they call it  Iv’e no doubt he’ll be demanding the latest play station game and probably get it too, cos it’ll be against his human rights not to provide him with everything he wants or demands wouldnt it
