Ssssh Will…. They’ll all come flocking back. A bit like sheep.
I come and read these boards about once a week to catch up with my JC friends who post here.
If I feel like posting I will.
I havent flocked back like a sheep and the only reason I’ve posted is because Patschat was mentioned.
You peruse Patschat on a daily basis and never post

You very accurately describe the difficulty that ChatGuides have when ‘banning’ a persistent scroller or abusive user bon bon. As you say, they simply keep on coming back over and over, sometimes for hours on end. Each time they are booted it confirms to them that they are being noticed etc etc and which simply reinforces their stupid & childish behaviour.
On a point of accuracy, when you put a user on ‘ignore’ you cannot then see their typing and more importantly they have no way of knowing that you have done this – other than your lack of reaction of course.
There is therefore no reason for them to leave and return if the ignore facility is used.
It may “get your goat” to be told to use the ‘iggy button’ but the fact is that most users simply don’t do this and prefer to get into some sort of slanging match with the abuser – thus making them worse.
The person scrolling in the quiz the other night was ignored by the chatters in this case
but they still leave after a couple of minutes and come back using a different name so you have to use the iggy button all over again.
Having been a guide briefly I have a lot of sympathy ( wrong word but I know what I mean) for what they do. Its harder than it looks. They are all here voluntrarily for the good of the site and theres always someone having a go thinking they could do better. Without guides there would be no site6 July, 2009 at 8:06 am #400265We all know how to use the iggy button thankyou
and the point is being missed
The odd abuser you can iggy or not, your choice
I agree totally there
but……
when a single scroller is determined to disrupt a room and has a dynamic internet connection, every time they are booted they come back 5 minutes later under a different name and scroll in the room again and again and again and again and again.
Its a race to find the name in the list and iggy them.
When this is done they leave and come back under a different name and so it starts again.
When you have had to do this 50 million times with different names you get a little fed up and eventually leave till the numb nuts has bored with it all. This make take some time as they are usually highly amused by themselves and are probably fiddling at the same time. The guides do their best and I don’t think any critism of them is warrented in this case
but to be continuously told, as you roll your eyes in a patronising way, to use the iggy button, gets my goat
