Sadly, I’m not sure that it’s a case of people not caring, but more that they come to expect it. Like most types of abuse, when it happens with any regularity, it just doesn’t have the impact that it used to, and you kind of get used to it.
For the first wee while, it’s incredibly upsetting no matter what others say, but after a while it just becomes part of your altered ‘norm’.
Very sad.
