Animal sex in San Francisco
San Francisco zoos do sex tours, run by Jane
Tolllini, the zoo’s former penguin keeper. This
is what you can learn.
1. Cobby the chimp likes his keepers’ shoes.
“He’ll put his finger out and touch the shoe,
says Tollini, “Then he’ll play with his
nipples, eat bananas and masturbate.
2. Tunya the lion can have sex 50 times
in 24 hours, in 30 second bursts. “That’s
why he’s called King of the jungle”.
3. Female opossums have double wombs. They
can get pregnant when they already pregnant.
4. Male same-sex penguin couples have begun
to decorate their burrows with peacock feathers.
5. Tapirs are very well-endowed. Jack the
Tapir stepped on his own member. Zoo staff tried
to treat it with antiseptic but “It turned
purple, then black, then it atrophied.
Then it fell off, and he ate it.”
And why does Tollini run these tours? “I
like to watch”, she says.
