We did cover installing “windows service pack 2” on these boards some years ago.
I can’t find the post now.
From what I remember you can’t just down load it and install it.
You have to down load it on to an usb memory stick then installed it from that.
Maybe Pb can find the old post and put the answer on here.
I dont know what you been smokin DOA, but can i have some please, i have downloaded and installed SP2 before in the past without having to use a external source. It’s possible that the system being a packard bell in itself could be the problem, tiny, time, knackerd bell, all build systems that they want to heavily restrict what you do with the system when it comes to formats, upgrades etc. Anyone who has dealt with a lot of these systems will know what im talking about.

Sorry to say it wont help DOA either, cos it tells you nothing useful as regards to the problem you are having.

I don’t have an old PC – it’s a Packard Bell that I’ve only had for three years and I have 75GB free on a 107GB hard drive. I was running service pack 2 previously, then it started playing up and I was advised to remove it and reinstall it. I did the first bit but can’t do the second bit which is why I’m in this mess.
PB – I have Windows XP Home Edition. God knows how I have reverted back to Internet Explorer 6. A guy I work with has said he’ll give me a disk to reformat my hard drive but this was about 5 weeks ago. I didn’t get any back up disks with it (he reckons PC World are bad for that)
I have to ask why did you think SP2 was playing up to begin with? I mean people’scomputers play up, but nobody jumps to the conclusion its SP2.
Now knowing you have a Packard bell system, it is very likely the windows disk your friend gives you will not install, due to packard bell restrictions put in place.
Your best bet would be to try and get hold of some recovery/rescue discs.7 September, 2007 at 12:25 pm #286437@anita Gofradump wrote:

7 September, 2007 at 12:39 pm #286438Ooooo I was playing a computer like this one last week.
Its one of the old ones.
Just for anita, there were people trying to set up wireless on there home pc some years ago and there was a few posts about it and windows SP2
But I am sorry to tell you this Johnboy but there is no easy answer.
When you borught your computer it was the year when they stopped giving out windows disk with new pc’s.
John can you now do this.
We maybe able to find you a recovery disk on line.
7 September, 2007 at 12:47 pm #2864397 September, 2007 at 12:56 pm #286440DOA – I don’t have an HP computer so that first one porobably wouldn’t work. However, I did try the Internet Explorer 7 download and it’s actually doing it.
The reason I seem surprised is that it usually tells me that it cannot validate my software even though the validation tool says…guess what? Genuine!
I’m hoping this’ll download okay but since I don’t have SP2 I’m not so sure.
7 September, 2007 at 12:58 pm #286441Did not complete – said it was unsupported.
