I would and I would use the medication provided if it was for pain relief or I would purchase it by other means, but in all honesty I would still grasp every single last moment I could out of life before I became too ill. I live next door to an elderly lady in her 80’s a proud independent woman and it is quite poignant that coming to the the end of her life, she wants to go out with dignity by her own choice before she is incapable of looking after herself. A good question and raises lots of ethical issues associated with it.

18 February, 2017 at 10:29 pm #1022491The thread is would you and could you?
18 February, 2017 at 10:30 pm #1022492Well, if you’re terminally ill, apparently you don’t have a choice .. or do you?
The word ‘terminally’ implies you don’t.
The woman above did have a choice (hysterectomy and chemo), she decided to go on a yr long trip instead, given the fact her husband had just died of cancer and she was 90 yrs old, herself.
Are you perhaps referring to Euthanasia?
18 February, 2017 at 10:43 pm #1022493Blossy there’s always a choose. But for some they miss it !!

I applaud her for making that decision, my neighbour is 86 and is seriously considering the Switzerland option, in Europe or at least parts of Europe people are more open to assistance to end their lives with dignity. I have had some deep conversions with my neighbour about this subject and it is a genuine fear that she won’t be looked after properly by the state when she is no longer able to do it herself.
