I would never leave Ireland. Other countries have their allure for hols and such but to sit up at dawn and watch the sun over my mountains is something i could never leave.

Actually Eve, thinking about it you are right it would be difficult for me to leave Yorkshire I’m just so lucky to live where I do

I’d love to emigrate just to get away from the obsessive religious and politically correct martyrs of this country.

You’d just be swapping one set of the above for another.

I wouldn’t want to emigrate, but I would love to have somewhere that was mine to retreat to and recharge my batteries when I needed it…a little haven of peace and tranquility.

Oh god, don’t tell me it’s a worldwide thing.

Yep, different religion, different form of politically correct martyrdom, but there’s no getting away from it…unless you buy your very own desert island, then you can start your own religion and ban anyone who doesn’t conform

Actually blossom I have friends in Brisbane and the main thing they miss about the UK is the seasons, so I know what you mean about equilibrium… wish it were summer though :D

Tried the immigration thing. Had it all, sun, sea, and sand.

Unfortunately, my income got swallowed up in medical insurance, high electric bills for air con, expensive food and transport costs.

The grass is not always greener.

Hello Panda, What country did you emigrate to? just wondered :?

    Grand Cayman

I have a friend lives in Grenada she went there years ago on a teaching exchange and ended up marrying a Grenadian guy. That’s about 20 years ago, recently she was diagnosed with cancer and her husband also has health problems, they have Health Insurance but all their treatments are mainly done in Barbados so they have the continual expense of getting there (not covered by their insurance) They have no state assistance and are presently living off savings so things look grim for them, all a worry. If she could she would return but her husband will not hear of it so she is just living day to day. THANK GOODNESS FOR THE NHS

    I love Grand Cayman btw

I am sorry for your friends T Pot :( x

I have kinda emmigrated – I live in France, but have a flat in London, which is a pit-stop for my family when, and, should they need it. The French health system is brilliant, as so, is the NHS. With the French health system you pay and get 75% back if you are not a ‘citizen’, but that is the same if you are (ie you have to pay 25%)!! Don’t ask me lol I think that is probably the same anywhere in the EU, dunno.

As for seasons, I love them, that is why we chose France (nothing to do with the language lol – I didn’t do Spanish, Italian, blah de blah at school – and I am not sure Latin would help either!), and the seasons are extreme here, but with a log fire in the winter, and pretty flowers in the spring, and wonderful different colours in the autumn, who cares eh? Same weather, different temperatures which is brill.

I do a job I love – teaching/coaching swimming OUTDOORS, which I couldn’t do in the UK – stuffed in a chlorine pool, stinging my eyes – no thanks!

You just got to have the guts to go for it. I have lived here now for 9 years, and loved every minute of it, well apart from burning some suppers once or twice!! lol
