Supposing you were considering buying a house and had the money available, would you buy now or hold off for a bit to see if prices keep dropping?

I would buy a house and put it on Mayfair or Park Lane.

I know this is a worrying time for most homeowners; there is a drop in the market.

New builds are down and most builders are discounting new properties, which is always a sign of a depressed market.

I think down sizing is always a good idea, if you don’t need the space why have it?

But if it was me, I would just think about where I would like to be in the next 10 years.

If you’re the kind of person who buys a house to sell on in a few years, the answer would be no.

If your looking for a home then that you will keep for the next few years, the answer would be yes.

Most people don’t think about falling houses prices if they are happy where they are and don’t intend to move.

I’m happy where I am and my mortgage is paid off so in a sense it doesn’t bother me if prices go up or down. In general I think falling prices would be good, though.

To answer my own question in the original post – if I was a first time buyer now, unless I had a specific must-have property in mind, I’d hold off right now in the hope of getting better value in a few months time.

Surely you won’t have much room in the caravan if you’ve got your silver Transit in there with you!

Being a gypsy – perhaps you should take your 9 children (by 5 different fathers) off on a holiday to Goa. I’m sure that you could afford it.
