Retired people should be encouraged to do community work such as caring for the “very old” or face losing some of their pension, a peer has suggested.

Lord Bichard, a former benefits chief, said “imaginative” ideas were needed to meet the cost of an ageing society.

Funny, I thought that working all my adult life and paying national insurance and tax was working for my pension…guess I was wrong…

I’m not sure why I pay into a pension. I’m 39 next month. I doubt retirement will be an option when I get to my 60s.

This made me laugh… I have no idea how people on the basic OAP can possibly manage let alone taking on work for their meagre pension.. to the privileged peer who suggested this I say an unreserved BOL LOCKS… just another example of politicians not living in the real world

Having said that I do think people should make arrangements for their own retirement and not expect the state to look after them.

Maybe lord pilchard might find it easier if all pensioners were put in labour camps,.

Yeah, not doubt he will want them wearing suits with a giant OAP printed on them and sandwich boards stating, “scrounger.”

I hate the lazy bastards who think that, because they paid something in, they should get something out. Pay tax, pay into a pension, expect a retirement. Jeeeez!

Forget something for something. Forget something for nothing. It’s about time we realised it’s a nothing for something world out there.

Make your payments – take the shit. And while you’re at it – shut up.

Right now, I’m so proud to be British. We were all together and happy about the Olympics and what we could do if we really tried. Now look at us.
