10 November, 2012 at 8:10 am #514208How terrible for Lord McAlpine…even the guy who made the allegations now says he is wrongly accused…. problem is though mud sticks and though he was not the abuser and there is no doubt he wasn’t…… some will say there is no smoke without fire…. what a nightmare!
Shame on Newsnight!

Well, the BBC have got themselves into a total mess, haven’t they? How the Jimmy Savile affair is just snowballing!
I remember when Newsnight was the top drawer of BBC reporting.
McAlpine can look after himself, unlike many others, but this Rupert Murdoch journalism backfired on Murdoch after years of his practise on ordinary people without any money to fight back, and nobody seems to have thought why.
A cheap, dirty laugh at the expense of rich bods can end up throwing dirt over the people who are doing the laughing.
Checking on sources, taking care with your accuracy, basic decency and honesty (I remember when those words didn’t sound old-fashioned) are standards which have to apply to everybody, even people we don’t like.

Schofield is too wrapped up in his own self-importance and was probably trying to build up his twitter following.

No they are standards we insist on in the BBC but let the rest of the media get away with.
Weren’t we just criticising them for not rushing to report paedophile allegations?
Seems the rest of the press and broadcast media can do what they want, but the BBC is expected to be impeccable.
