Download the free trial of tune up utilities 2004 and under ‘tuneup system control’ you’ll find it somewere in there, all changes are reversible. disable Memory paging too. If you want this prog unlocked, PM me. And make sure you have Memory defragmentation enabled.
30 January, 2005 at 8:31 pm #104828Photoshop just seems to use so much RAM and it’s slow when you select tools for it to run, it either slows down or freezes. It takes forever to do anything. Now, I’m only really just warming to the delights of Photoshop [actually I think it’s fab !], but I can only use it if I am offline with no other applications running.
At least it’s not just me BB [for a change !] :D
30 January, 2005 at 8:34 pm #104829Maybe a 1024 conversion is the only answer to your probs this is a must anyway if you want to run Microsoft Longhorn when it’s released, A 64 bit OS is gonna hammer your system. But im jumping the gun here.
30 January, 2005 at 8:42 pm #104830Oh and disable error reporting for Microsoft products IE, Office, Messenger and XP. These can chew Memory, and who sends the error reports anyway??? Disable IE from checking for Updates, Enable boot defrag, disable search network for sceduled tasks, disable search network for shared resources and enable used shares. All these are good little tweaks for squeezing more RAM.

Cheers SuperA. I’ll give this a shot tomorrow. :D
Oh and too true about Microsoft error reporting – like Mr Gates is going to PM……….”Dear Morticia, I’d like to take this opportunity to apologise for your Microsoft product fooking up again………….”
31 January, 2005 at 6:43 pm #104832Hey Morty tell me how much RAM this prog free up in the end? 100+mb of RAM? And do you have lower CPU consumption?
Oh and Burt trust me Morty aint gonna pay a dime for this prog ok.
31 January, 2005 at 6:59 pm #104833Hi SuperA,
Yep, where I had about 212MB RAM free, I’m now on around 300MB.Also, CPU running at around 10%.
It’s a fantastic bit of kit and really streamlines everything. All broken links in my registry are now deleted, it’s optimised everything and even gives you tips on what you can do to further optimise you PC.
Morty isn’t easily impressed, but today she is. :D
31 January, 2005 at 8:01 pm #104834Does you comp still hang when you run Photoshop morty?
31 January, 2005 at 8:20 pm #104835Photoshop still used loads of RAM [which I am assuming is normal] but it’s running a lot quicker – much better !!
:D :D :D
31 January, 2005 at 11:12 pm #104836I too downloaded Longhorn 4074 alpha but in .iso and burnt it using Nero so i cant tell you much about the .exe version if it went to dos then it sounds like it attempted an install???. Well if it’s an .exe i thought it would of self installed Longhorn like when you put your XP installation disc in???. However i could not get explorer to run with Longhorn it kept shutting down on me grrrrrrrr and hanging for ages. But man i love that slate look and how you can access most stuff from the desktop. The 4074 alpha i dl’d was a 64 bit OS (they do it in 32 bit too but its poo) and ideally your going to need 1024 mb of RAM to run it efficiently, it did make my sytsem work….high CPU and RAM and that was just for the Prog!!!!
Im gonna wait for a beta release before i bother with it again. I will inform you when the true beta is released.
And as for Memory paging i did say it works sometimes in this post somewere! unfortunatley it did’nt for you but i had noticable gain by disabling it. d/l tune up Trapps because i bet you will at least recover say 50mb of ram.
On a serious note if you disable the above mentioned applications it’s definatley a noticable gain and i hate them damn error reports. Please post how much you gained from it Trapps i’d like to know.
