We can have a trade agreement with them which would cost us nothing just like Norway and Switzerland…… what is it we get from Europe to justify 17.5 billion each year? More to the point do we need whatever it is?

Nobody needs the EU. That’s the whole point.

Europe has always needed Europe in one way or another and there has always been a “union,” hence the reason we went to war when Germany did not withdraw from Poland. There’s lot more examples of this union. Perhaps you should read some history books.

    Just a thought.

I understand the point you are making Panda…. I’m undecided about The EU…I know over the years we have been told by politicians that its vital we are a member.. but is it? thats what I’m struggling to understand….

For instance when we defended Poland there was no agreement… we were not paying 17.5 billion to be in a private European club.. we did it because it was the right thing to do we dont need to be in a club to do the right thing…

I understand your point though about withdrawing trade agreements if it suits them .. maybe in the longer term we should be concentrating more on trade with the rest of the world?

I agree we need open and transparent debate and information… its a shame its politicians who will be tasked with that… I sometimes wonder about all those jobs for the boys in Brussels and the rest of the gravy train.

There has always been a “union”?

And this “union” declared war on Germany..?

I’m going to need popcorn for this one…

    Mrs T,

my advice (and you can take it or leave it..) would be to do a little research for yourself rather than fall for the misleading and misguided rubbish posted on here by Sceptical Guy.

Use google and youtube and it will open your mind to the realities of the EU as opposed to the propagandist claptrap you will get from the brainwashed JC know-it-alls.

Of course nothing you find on Google and YouTube will be propagandist claptrap…Terry, you do realise that you too are a “brainwashed JC know-it-all” don’t you? Presenting a different argument doesn’t change that.

Like Mrs T, I don’t profess to understand completely. If I read all the material currently available it’s just a pile of conflicting information and argument written from the biased view of the authors. If a respected economist not affiliated with any one side, party or cause and not funded by anyone out there just took the time to sit down and write a full unbiased appraisal it would be so welcome…unfortunately I don’t think such a person exists although I’d love to be proven wrong.

Google and youtube will give you a choice. On JC there is no choice.

You all seem to have been brainwashed into thinking the EU is a godsend when clearly it isn’t.
Anything supported by corrupt politicians (Blair and Brown come to mind) needs to be investigated. I’m just fed up of reading the cheese-eating, surrender-monkey rubbish that you lot keep spewing out and subscribe to.

Nice editing Terry, you missed off this bit:

I have no opinion on the EU one way or the other, I don’t feel well enough informed and I’m sure I’m not the only one in that boat. Unbiased appraisal…let me know if you find it. Until then I can see some good that comes out of the EU and I can see some bad, and I have no idea what it the repercussions would be if we came out. I can’t see that changing any time soon.

But this is a thread about the EU.
