None of these arguments wash water with me I am afraid. Physical brute force is not the same as “ability”. Women work just as hard as men. Male and female tennis is not promoted equally. Women didn’t make the rules that they should only play three sets, men did. Most matches outside of major grand Slam tournaments are played over three sets. That three set rule has also created a false perception that women lack the toughness and endurance to handle five sets, which also reinforces the stereotype that women are inferior to men. A man is not paid less for winning in three straight sets and so that argument is flawed, applying that logic.
It doesn’t really matter what washes water with your or not.. women play 60% the match length as men. This isn’t opinion, it’s fact so how can they possibly work as hard as men? They effectively do the same job but women only need to play a best of three sets compared to best of five for men. You wouldn’t say ” person A works Monday to wednesday and person B works Monday to Friday doing exactly the same thing deserves the same wage.. it’d be a part time salary which is what women should get under those regulations. If women aren’t inferior to men why do they not play each other? Of course they are inferior in strength and endurance which is why every athletic world record is faster for men.. again that’s not supposition , it’s fact. This was actually put to test by the generally regarded greatest ever female player Serena Williams who claimed she could beat any man ranked outside the top 200 knowing obviously anyone in the top 200 would be too much for her and wipe the floor with her. She played a guy ranked 203 in the world , a bum by male standards called Karsten braasch who destroyed her 6-1.. that’s why men are kept apart as they are stronger, faster in every sport ever invented. This same player who is exceptionally poor by male standards then beat her sister 6-2.. the reality is it’s a complete mismatch.
The main crux of the argument however is you don’t pay someone the same for doing 60% of the work and to suggest winning a tournament playing best of 3 sets is the same as best of 5 is absolute nonsense.
7 July, 2017 at 9:01 pm #1059310If men work 5 days in an office, women work 3.. what company would pay the same rate to both?
Possibly they would be the same rate but pro rata as in most jobs.
In life you are generally paid for the hours you work so you have blown your own argument out of the water.
Quite obviously a director / manager in fact every one employed gets paid the same rate or should do if they are at the same level.
As the majority of sports prize money is corrupt why are you just singling out tennis?
Deuce !

Game set and match right there, with that one comment.

Every sport ever invented? You sure about that one. Don’t you mean the cherry picked sports you have chosen, where men are physically stronger than women and that you therefor equate strength to superiority?

Men also have faster reaction times, and better reflective instincts, and threat assessment than women do on average, all of which are of benifit in sports.

No they don’t, clearly, gymnastics springs to mind and ice skating etc, both Olympic sports and I would also argue female tennis players reaction times are just as fast as their male counterparts. In the context of the brain processing. It would be interesting though if it has ever been measured. I would also argue “reflective instinct” is learned by repetition, learned behaviour and not based on gender at all.

Your points don’t make any sense. As you say pro rata , so as the average mens match lasts longer in tournaments like wimbledon why should pay rates be the same ..” game set and match” you have just argued my case for me. We are discussing tennis as that is the topic, would you go on every thread and say why are we discussing X Y and Z because the thread was directed to a specific topic? No thread can encapsulate every topic known to man can it? In life as you say people are generally paid for the hours they work and during a tournament like wimbledon the men work more hours as they need to win more sets to progress yet you argue the merits of equal pay which goes against the whole gist of your own post

Name a sport where men and women compete on an equal level with women regularly beating men? We are talking sporting superiority not some kind of master race superiority you are inferring with your posts and I stand by my comments … name a single sport where women beat men that doesn’t involve a machine or animal. It’s not just about strength, look at endurance events such as long distance running- find me a single world record where a woman can run any distance faster than a man where strength plays less of a factor unlike explosive sprint events and it’s more endurance orientated. You can’t simple as that
7 July, 2017 at 10:44 pm #1059322Incidentally I prefer womens tennis , 5 sets bores the sweet jesus out of me and in tournaments with both genders playing best of three sets then equal pay is fine but not in scenarios like this.

I think it is just basic common sense that that statement is clearly not accurate, or based on any reality. As the Olympics demonstrates.
