Tennis players off sick or injured get diddly squat though, or the money say Shrek got at 17 unless theyre a precocious talent. Have a sht day and a tennis player or golfer will get little money, if a footballer has a shit day he may not even lose his win bonus as long as the other 10 bail him out
Actors get paid according to what the film makers think starring in their pics will add to the box office takings , yeah sometimes thats a gamble, but football clubs have a finite crowd capacity and with some clubs thats smaller than others no matter what they achieve.
It isnt about the crowds its about TV and corporate money anyway, thas where the real money is generated
It’s a twist on words though. Tennis players arent working for a Company so that’s why they wont get paid if they’re sick or injured. Fooballers are working for a Company so like any working person they’ll get paid.

Who’ll win the title next season, or the season after ? The clubs that can pay the wages is who, although geographical location helps a little.
Chelsea bought the title it’s that simple same as Blackburn did, except Chelsea could sustain that spending. And wheres the main spending ? Foreign players, so where does the England team get their stars from ? What happened to the players coming up from the lower league clubs ? Wheres the Keegans and his like ?
The English Premiership of today is light years better than the old English 1st Division of 20 years ago thanks to the Foreign Players.
Without the Ronaldo’s, Fabreagas and Ballacks the global interest wouldn’t be as high, and Sky wouldn’t be paying the fortune they pay for the TV rights. Is the England team of today any better or worse than the England team of 30 years ago before the foreign influx. Good players will always come through to the national team.
10 October, 2008 at 4:03 pm #379574Better for the clubs with the money not for the England team, as for the England team of today, worse without a doubt, good players dont get a chance to come through the system and world class players are whats needed for a national team not good.
10 October, 2008 at 4:10 pm #379575I aint sure what the England team of 1978 was, but they hadnt qualified for two World Cup’s in succession. No foreign influence to blame in those days.
You cant tell me that players like Terry, Ferdinand, Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney etc arent as good, if not better than their counterparts of the past.
10 October, 2008 at 4:16 pm #379576Not as near to their foreign counterparts as the England players were 30 yrs ago. Training nutrition coaching etc have all moved on so fitness will be better, but overall no i dont think they’re any better per se and probably overall a lot less passionate than they were, generally speaking, due to money.
15 October, 2008 at 2:10 pm #379577the england team of today would beat any england team from another year main reason being and its already been said is lifestyle
fitness for one! its a faster game now simple as that
15 October, 2008 at 8:04 pm #379578i agree that modern day players are fitter and healthyer…..but i would reserve judgement as for more skillful
conditions yesteryear were (as a lot of you have said) harder and less money plus the equiptment in todays game is highly technical and obviously better
boots balls shirts blah blah blah….
but you know the ONE thing that angers me about the players involved in the modern game…….tiredness…holy fu/ck i hate it when they say that…prima donas the whole fu/cking lot of them…and ill give you an example
to touch upon something that was said in an earlier post…tennis players…
for example..if one tennis player got to the final of wimbledon…with playing an average of 3 hours per round….add that to the 6 rounds it takes to get to the final….
then thats an average of ……3240 minutes played in 2 weeks (not to mention if they play in doubles and mixed doubles)
a footballer??…….180 minutes in 2 weeks……
thats just one “shakey example”…. but the next time you hear a manager or player complaining about …too many games or being tired then tell them to shove their £15,000 to £100,000 A WEEK (covering all bases there) up their sodden tired fu/cking arses
i thank you
