The childs, because he,s been allowed to roam the streets since the age of 3? Or is it the parents fault? They are both violent drug addcits, so given the boys upbringing, it,s hardly surprising he turned out this way is it? Does he need help or locking up? What do you think?

Probably both Bat. I think the judge did exactly the right thing. There are far too many pple, and not just young pple, who blame their wrongdoings on the way they were brought up, bad childhoods etc etc.,While I don’t doubt that the parents in this are in many ways to blame, I mean, a 3 yr old, roaming the streets alone,,,,,,,,once again,,,,,where were social services. The young man tho in question has admitted that he knew what he did was wrong, so maybe theres hope, who knows.
18 November, 2008 at 6:44 pm #387199Perhaps one of the better (or more extreme) example of piss poor parenting.
26 November, 2008 at 8:20 pm #387200Agree with all of the above… But I can’t believe that at 14 years of age the boy didn’t understand right from wrong if HE knew he wouldn’t be served fags and alcohol cos of his age

Sweet, I can assure you, from one who works in the industry. What you just said is sooooo right,,,,,and soo wrong also. I mean wrong that they do it. Yes, they do know, that they’re underage,,,,,they’ll try to put pressure on us with threats, if they’re not served with what they want.
In our branch, i’m happy to say that don’t. No I.D. no sale, end of story. It’s now a 21 rule too,,,,,,,,doesn’t even matter if yr 18 and have ID.,
I agree too, that at 14 he knows right from wrong. Not that all the services weren’t in theyre own way, responsible, where were they when the child was roaming the streets at 3 yrs old…….still,,,,,he still knows.
I probably did the same thing at their age, bought alchohol, underage, which one of us can say we didn’t,,,,difference tho, is we didn’t carry knives in our back pockets,,,,,,some did! most tho didn’t, it seems to have gone the other way now,,,,,,most do, and some don’t.

Yes, it’s an example of poor parenting. Yes the question should be asked where were social services when a 3 year old was wandering the streets. Also, what about the neighbours who saw a 3 year old wandering the streets. What about the teachers who saw this child every day. What about the doctors who treated the family…..and so on and so on.
However the young boy also needs to take responsibility here, it’s too easy to say ah well look at my upbringing, what do you expect. I have known people who have come from dire circumstances, possibly worse than this lad, but they have been a credit to themselves despite their upbringing. Maybe this will be a turning point for the lad, I truly hope so.
11 December, 2008 at 4:58 pm #387203I blame the feral boy. People should know not to behave in such a way. If they don’t know or don’t care that they should be locked up. I see this as a public safety issue.
It’s also the end-game of the 60’s permissiveness, which started harmleesly enough with nice middle-class girls and boys doing things that shocked their mummies, daddies and teachers, and has now filtered down to the lowest class as knife-crime, binge drinking etc.
11 December, 2008 at 6:15 pm #387204I think you have a really good point there Bas and one that has escaped most people for years.
Being typically rebellious in the teenage years and over-indulging in sex, drinking and so on is OK if it’s nice middle class children / teeenagers doing it simply to irritate their parents.
But when the working classes get in on the act, they spoil it for everone with their excessive use of public violence, drug-taking and generally upsetting and frightening the horses. It simply won’t do at all.
The working classes should stick to coarse fishing and allow their betters to go fly fishing.
11 December, 2008 at 7:15 pm #387205is coarse fishing where you shout “bite you ugly f*cking ba*stard fish”
