Hitler Yout… I mean Man Utd have been telling us for the past few weeks that Best was their finest ever player. Cantona doesn’t even make the top one at the club he is most remembered at. I doubt he’d make the top five of a soberly compiled list.
So what set of domestic club supporters still sing their name after more than five years since they last played?
dixie dean! george best, bobby charlton, billy bremner, kenny dalglish, ian rush
all names that still have their names sang, yet i doubt many of them would be classed as the best of all time, to say cantona was the best because fans sing about him means naff all
pele, socrates, cruyff etc etc pikeys list says it all, those are greats, not some arrogant player with a starched collar who likes to beat up fans, and talks about sardines and seagulls
24 December, 2005 at 1:26 pm #178643I would defo say George Best and Kenny Dalglish would b classed as some of the best of all time.
24 December, 2005 at 1:29 pm #178644Shows what u know Gobfrey. Dalglish was the best player in the world in the early eighties.

I’d be happy with any one of the first four on my list.
And what would you and everyone else base their opinion on?
token_male, i dont ever hear fans sing them names, certainly not in the same way manyoo fans sing erics.
24 December, 2005 at 4:36 pm #178648canatona was good, finest player i have ever seen play at old trafford, but i’m only 25, never got to see best, charlton.. ect ect
but there is a young lad called rooney
he could be somthing big
i also thought di canio was a fine footballer, watched him once at old trafford take us apart, and made it look very easy

Does that mean you havnt got enough to gage your opinion on them, being the best footballer?

And Emma, souless is right to say what he did, can you make an opinion on say WG Grace? Well no you can’t. It’s only hearsay.
Thats my point mate. My dad says george best was the best, but he`d never seen him play….it sounds stupid, but ive seen more from some championship players than george best.
Another thing, players in todays era, are much much fiiter. Most of the defenders 30 years ago were rubbish. From what ive seen, i`d say GB was the best player 30 years ago, but wouldnt stick a chance doing the same nowadays.
However, had he been born 25 years ago, he may well been the best.
