9 August, 2007 at 11:56 am #281973I’m not f*cking about, I swear. I submitted my app 3 days ago, they’re going to call me soon. I just went onto armyjobs.mod.uk for a live chat as I was worried about my app not going through, because of me being anti-metric. They said it should be fine. Here’s the transcript..

12:42:41 System Initial Question/Comment: Will I be away from home for weeks & weeks at a time?
12:42:50 System Welcome to the British Army Online Careers Office
12:42:50 System CSgt Gary Harriss has joined this session!
12:42:50 System Connected with CSgt Gary Harriss
12:42:50 System Welcome to the Online Office. Please be patient, the recruiters are chatting with up to 6 people at the same time. Ask your questions, but please give them time to respond.
12:43:10 CSgt Gary Harriss HI can i help>>?
12:43:20 CSgt Gary Harriss you won’t get leave during your Phase 1 training until after around six weeks. This is a long weekend’s leave and is when most recruits choose to go home and catch up with friends and family. You also usually get a period of leave after your Passing Out Parade. After about six weeks, recruits can usually go out and socialise in the evenings outside the camp. During Phase 2 training you will also be given leave, the length of which depends on each establishment. Once you’ve completed your training, you’ll enjoy 30 working days (six weeks) of paid leave per year. Working hours are typically 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday with your evenings and weekends free.
12:43:39 You Hi. I really want to join the army. But, I run a chat community that is important to me, I won’t be away for MONTHS at a time, will I?
12:44:20 CSgt Gary Harriss yes you will
12:44:30 CSgt Gary Harriss operation tours like Iraq is 6 montsh
12:44:31 You I see. Will still have occassional access to a computer, right?
12:44:38 You Will I**
12:44:50 CSgt Gary Harriss not in Iraq no
12:45:16 You Well. I guess I can just leave someone else in charge. I really want to serve my Queen, so this is more important.
12:45:22 You I have another question if you don’t mind?
12:45:30 CSgt Gary Harriss ok,
12:46:35 You I’ve already submitted my application the other day. The height & weight question was left blank, as I was feeling particularly cheeky and in the additional information part – I put “I don’t speak French, sorry”. But I did state my height is 6’0 and I am 156lbs. This will not void my application, will it?
12:48:40 CSgt Gary Harriss your fine on this
12:49:52 You Brilliant! I was worried my application would be binned. But, since it’s the British army I was hoping that disliking the metric wouldn’t be too much of a problem. Ha! One more question. Say I’m accepted into the army.. how long does training last, and, how long would it be before I’m sent to Iraq? I would be more than happy to go.
12:50:31 CSgt Gary Harriss how old are you
12:50:36 You I’m 22.
12:50:41 CSgt Gary Harriss which job was you going for
12:51:07 You I applied for the Yorkshire Regiment as first choice, Queen’s Regiment as second choice, and I chose combat.
12:51:21 CSgt Gary Harriss your looking at 26 weeks training
12:51:31 CSgt Gary Harriss then posted to your unit
12:51:41 CSgt Gary Harriss then you go where they go
12:51:52 You So in approximately 6 months, I could be serving Her Majesty – possibly in Iraq or elsewhere?
12:52:01 CSgt Gary Harriss CSgt Gary Harriss pushes page, http://212.117.224.199/article.asp?article=1336&p=1

12:52:41 You Excellent. Thank you for your time :) I look forward to training, getting into shape, and doing my country proud. Bye for now!
12:52:51 CSgt Gary Harriss best of luck
12:52:51 CSgt Gary Harriss bye

now ^ made me laugh!!!!!
9 August, 2007 at 1:52 pm #281977You’re not the one who has spent hundreds of pounds and have made a loyal group of good friends who could be extremely let down putting a huge amount of guilt on your shoulders – so you can
Don’t worry though, as heartless as you are – atleast I have proved that behind my former persona is a real caring person who wants to do something good.
So I win.

I forget which one of you is in the Army. I think it’s Oss, I’m not sure.
But, take a look at this for me will you..
I sent in my application to join The King’s Division – Yorkshire Regiment.
They wanted to know my weight in KG and height in CM. (I thought I was applying to the BRITISH army, not the FRENCH army??????)
I left it blank, and as you can see from the image above, in the additional info box I put
“I don’t speak French, sorry.”I’m a bit worried that might void my application. It won’t, will it? They said a recruitment officer will contact me within 5 days. So, surely they’ll just ask me for an explanation then and fill my weight/height in for me when I tell them 6ft & 156lbs.
They won’t just reject the application will they?
I’m in so much debt right now and the army is my last desperate move, as they pay all living costs etc.
If you’re in the army, lemme know if I’ll still be OK as far as my app goes for refusing to use metric.
156lbs.. :!: are you planning on joining the yank army.. :?:9 August, 2007 at 8:57 pm #281980@fastcars wrote:
