Its always a pleasure to be admired BM – even insincerely lol.
Defend the Boards??? Well if push comes to shove I guess so, but there is nothing like a good old fight with handbags swinging, egos getting bruised, people flouncing out in a huff, demands for accounts to be deleted (with the appropriate sense of outraged indignation of course), complaints of harassment, allegations of racism, nazism and so on, accusations of misuse of cams (but ONLY males NOT females you notice !!!!), etc etc.
As I understand it Captain Geoffers has finally retired, taken his long service medal and pension and is now living in a home for old codgers. He is now to be seen dribbling on his porridge and is still muttering oaths under his breath.
Ah how I mourn the ‘good old days’.
RIP Captain Geoffers 2005

dagger maybe, or his mate simon?
10 November, 2005 at 12:46 am #166966I do miss him PB, but of late he behaved like a rabid dog. Attacking certain
JC users on sight and spoiling some excellent threads on the way.
I know I have been guilty of being drawn into said destruction of some
threads, but I am not guilty of seeing every post by The Captain as a signal
to attack.10 November, 2005 at 10:36 am #166967I love the attack dog analogy – very apt. We have a number of attack dogs (and attack bit ches as well) on the Boards.
Take the thread in Forum 3 where Inspector Closeau attacks Rosie. Suddenly the sisterhood all rush over and start yapping and snarling and tearing lumps of flesh off the Inspector.
What is soooo funny (to me at any rate) is that they are all totally convinced that it is our very own Captain Geoffers in disguise. He is even said to have planned his departure well in advance and set up a number of different accounts in preparation. There is even an immensely long and detailed historical (hysterical ?) diatribe about all of his alleged antics over the years. A sort of Obituary as it were. Talk about paranoia.
The big joke is that I happen to know it ISN’t anything to do with him. As it happens I know exactly who Inspector Closeau is, and it one of the sisterhood themselves (in disguise) who clearly doesn’t like Rosie too much and had a right go at her in the most personal of terms.
But hey – why allow the facts to get in the way of a good story eh?
Meanwhile Rosie and the sisterhood remain convinced that Captain Geoffers is behind the attack – he must be laughing in his grave.
RIP Captain Geoffers – 2005

10 November, 2005 at 12:19 pm #166969with all due respect PB… why are you continuing this now that he has gone?
ffs I’m glad to see the back of him and never once though the inspector was him
:?I was online last night supposedly doing college work but had the occasional break and found myself on the boards….there were more people online last night than there has been in ages.
doesn’t take much of a rocket scientist to work out why eh?

I think you either misread that thread or you are being deliberately blind to stress a point PB. Only one person assumed Clouseau was Geoff. The rest of the “sisterhood” as you put it only stated the obvious … that Clouseau was a regular in disguise.
Having re-read the thread, and on a strict interpretation, I think that you may well be right. In point of fact it was more that one person and there were several oblique references as well, but to be fair you have a good point and maybe I did overstate mine for emphasis..
However my general point stands which is that users rush to blame the current bogeyman (Captain Geoffers at present) as soon as a thread or comment appears criticising one of the sisterhood and their ‘friends’. A lot of times it just isn’t him at all, but the paranoia persists and adds to the urban legend.

It is very noble of you to defend Geoff in his voluntary absence, but some objectivity would be nice. Geoff didn’t get “constantly attacked”. He got reactions to his own very personal tirades.
Actually this is only partly true. Yes he certainly brought most of the attacks on himself, and I suspect quite deliberately so as some sort of wind up.
But there are also users who equally can’t let go and have started a thread out of the blue with the specific intention of having a go at him. Then of course everybody joins in and off we go again.

For general information, I have never once complained to anybody about anybody. Everything I have had to say I have said on the boards. I did however consider getting my account deleted. As you said, you can only take so much …. bearing in mind I still have no idea as to why Geoff lashed out at me the way he did. As you seem to know him better than most, maybe you could find out and let me know?
In truth I don’t know why Captain Geoffers appeared to take a dislike to you. I say appeared, as for him most of this stuff was words on a screen and didn’t represent reality. He thoroughly enjoyed a wind up and if he could get somebody going, then that was a result.
I have the feeling that he labelled you as having little sense of humour and always wanting the last word. Maybe that is a libel and not a label – I don’t know. Maybe you even lived down to this virtual reputation, or maybe not – who knows? But I am sure that he felt no personal animosity towards you, as he so obviously did towards certain others.
RIP Captain Geoffers. Killed in action – November 2005
