18 October, 2012 at 5:33 pm #513055Well.. I remember when times were tough in college and we had to spend our hard unearned cash on important essentials like booze and smokes.
Uh huh, we were reduced to living on lingering food masses in an almost always derelict fridge .. Curious culinary mutilations that were inevitably either very new cheese or very old meat :?Memories..
18 October, 2012 at 7:43 pm #513056i can remember in about 1983 when i lived in bedsit land, everyone in the house had spent way too much money going out at the weekend and no one in the house had enough food to make a proper meal for themselves……..there were six of us and we pooled what we had and chucked it into a huge pan ……….baked beans, sweetcorn, ravioli, peas, spaghetti rings and vegetable soup………simmered slowly for about an hour…….served in bowls…….we polished off the lot and it was fab! :D
good times :D
18 October, 2012 at 7:55 pm #513057I lived at home for my student days but my parents were never there.
As long as there was cat food and dog food for my pets, everything was ok.
I used to make do with a vege burger from the kebab house just before Camden tube station.
I wonder if it’s still there.
18 October, 2012 at 9:33 pm #513058When i first started working i used to earn about £16 a week, living in a caravan, i paid £10 a week rent and had to run my motorbike too, i would buy a box of powdered / dry chicken supreme, just mix with hot water, and a sachet or two of instant smash and a loaf of bread and butter. That would pretty much last me the week for food, i don’t recall actually minding it either, sounds rather grim now :?

If it wasn’t for the motorbike I would have said you were about 150 years old.
18 October, 2012 at 10:14 pm #513060Nope, just part time work, on £1.03 an hour at 16 years old. Was pretty reasonable money down here for that age at the time.
