8 September, 2007 at 7:01 pm #286275If you REALLY want to know what is on (and in) your computer then I can highly reccomend a FREE software utility called Aida 32.
AIDA32 Publisher’s Description:
AIDA32 is a professional system information, diagnostics and benchmarking program running on Win32 platforms. It extracts details of all components of the PC. It can display information on the screen, print it, or save it to file in various formats like HTML, CSV or XML. For corporate users, AIDA32 offers command-line switches, network audit and audit statistics, remote system information and network management.Features:
full hardware & software information on 80 pages
built-in hardware database: detailed information about 22000 components
phyisical information for CPU, motherboard, hard disk, optical drive
motherboard chipset, buses, sensor information
installed programs, event logs list
diagnostics module to reveal possible problems
memory benchmark
automatic audit via command-line switches
ADO/ODBC database support
remote control through TCP/IP network
32-bit low-level hardware detection
multi-threaded program model
full Windows XP compatibility
Iomega Active Disk supportOK it sounds a bit complicated for the non-technically minded but trust me it is REALLY easy to use. It is perfectly safe to run, and it won’t do ANY damage to your computer.
Once you have downloaded and installed the FREE programme, all you do is to click the icon and it will automatically run. Around 10-20 seconds later it will give you a full and complete list of absolutely everything on your computer.
Apart from anything else it is quite fascinating to see all the information that it gives you – right down to the serial number of your motherboard for example.

8 September, 2007 at 7:20 pm #286276Appears to be a rather useful tool PB well done old chap, not so sure about its reports though….
What use is a serial number 00000000 lol.
8 September, 2007 at 10:40 pm #286277Yes I know sometimes the serial number info is utterly useless – but it is fascinating how some of them are burnt into the software side of the hardware (eh???) and Aida picks it up. It is especially useful if you want to benchmark your system and log the make, model and serial number of the peripherals.
BTW – are you sure your setting “Wake-up Type” = ”Modem Ring” is correct??? I thought that was the equivalent of ”wake up on LAN”.
Wouldn’t it be better to disable this so that the computer only wakes up when you give it a command and not when it receives an incoming signal from your Modem??????
8 September, 2007 at 10:42 pm #286278BTW … anybody else tried it????
Johnboy ????

I’m not sure i want to see the benchmark of my computer, i might cry!

I know, im just to lazy to change it, as with many such settings, i spend a great deal of time building, upgrading, repairing, trouble shooting other people systems, but when it comes to my own, i just cannot be botherd lol. Mike meyers would be pulling his hair (what little he has)out at me and beating me with the old golden bible.
